reelman1It was a legal kill, big deal if the indians consider it a sacred animal. I see the indians in Canada are just like the ones here in the USA - perpetually offended.

p dog shooterI never heard that a white moose was sacred.
Most likely made up BS playing off the white buffalo of the Sioux. In all the reading I have done on North American Indian culture. I haven't ran across that one before.

makiI'd likely have passed just because of what tends to happen, at least in legend, to those who shoot white stags. Still, a cool animal and good on the hunters. Now if the snivellers would just PFO.

This has nothing to do with first nation wishes or believes
It is engrained in the Fish and wildlife act 1997
This prohibits the hunting of moose that are over 50% white coloured in named areas. This applies to quite a few provinces.

winchester poorMy Dad and I were riding over a farm, piece of land I had bought and I spotted a whitetail deer that was 75-80% white or piebald and I said to my Dad, "Pops what would the Indians say " in one word he answered " Supper".... This farm had the corner cut off by the 'Big Slough' and the center had a 30 acre black gum pond called the gay hammock and was a game magnet, ton a hill between was an old Indian camp that was loaded with pottery and arrowheads and flint tools. very best

buckeyeshooterIf that is accurate, the hunter screwed up and deserves to be prosecuted.

capowardGuys,
I just watched the video and the hunt took place in Nova Scotia so the Ontario regulations are not applicable. Also, the video which was a new commentary indicated the moose was taken lawfully and yes it did indicate that the First Nation folks believe that 'white game animals' are returned ancestors so that was the issue.

Why don't we get back to hunting and nothing else

boarkillerBy god, I"ll see whitey moose, I'm gonna shoot his ass. It's just color variation, that's all.
If whitey is some indian ancestor, why do they hate us whiteys so much?
We should be revered as the ancestors then, right?
PS: Just leave it to minorities and they always turn it upside down. And Belief my ass

Much ado about nothing. They had a tag, they followed the law, enough said. Next you'll have different groups blocking access to the meat counter at the grocery store based on their religious beliefs.

MacD37As long as it's legal where you are hunting then there is no legal reason to not shoot a white moose.
On the other hand, there are sometimes unwritten rules of conduct especially for a guest hunter in someone else's country. With that in mind if I knew this was a a local traditional rule, I would not shoot the white moose, legal or not!
IMO that is simply showing respect to the locals, nothing more, nor less! Others may do as it suits as long as it is legal.

2th docI spent more than a few years living with and around First Nation members and can tell you first hand they make a fuss about the smallest of game issues. Doing so why over shooting bag limits and abusing restrictions that are imposed onto non First Nation members. i.e. No one whom considers themselves a sportsman would even think of killing a pregnant cow elk in April or killing an entire herd of elk that were rounded up into a pasture with pickup trucks, etc. Yet first Nation people do it as commonly as we swat flies.

Idaho SharpshooterWe owe them. We will always owe them, and no obscene amount of $$$ on a regular basis can atone for what old whitey has done. Don't you all know they were the lords of creation before the white man invaded and turned them into a continent of fat diabetic welfare kings & queens...?
