I am considering buying a Glock. Which model & chambering might be best-accuracy, recoil, etc??
.40 cal or .45 cal? Will use for a house gun, possibly conceal carry, etc.

I would shoot one or two before you buy one....

I find the 45 glocks grips just to big for my hands. I would go with the 40

Well, house gun and concealed carry can be two different things ie. a house gun can be fullsize, while a CC should probably be a bit smaller. The Glock 30SF is a small gun in 45 ACP (10 round capacity), but the 40 is a very effective round. Try a Glock 22 in 40 S&W.

Jim first go to a shooting range that rents pistols. Then you can find what fits your hand the best and also what you shoot the most accurate caliber wise.

Conceal carry (CCW) are 2 different topics! I myself do like those Glocks a lot and carry them as my CCW tool. If you have experience in shooting a pistol, a .40 caliber could very well be right for you. Now if not, go the route of the 9mm Luger and work upward later down the road etc.

I shoot a .45acp and a 10mm Glock but I been shooting for several decades now. The Glocks are less recoil to shoot also. They have a great track record as being very reliable to carry and shoot.

IF ccw is a possibility, then do not go full size. Plus the 45 are bulky in any size. That said, suggest the model 23 , .40 cal. mid size, hides well, and handles well. Take a look at the S&W M&P line also.

Glock 30, 10 rounds of .45 ACP, 13 round mag available. The best thing to come out of the 10 round magazine limit. Glock 36, 6 round single stack mag. A little thinner.

I'm not a Glock fan, nothing wrong with the Glock before you go there, but if I were to buy one it would be a 30. I'd prefer a longer barrel but I'd carry it. Glock 27 is the .40 version, 26 in 9mm.

The rental advice is the best advice you can get.

I'm very happy with my Glock 22.

I tried a Glock 32 a couple years ago. My buddies nephew brought it out when we went shooting. I liked the .357 sig round. The handgun was accurate and easy to handle. The owner got kinda PO'ed when I shot better then he did with his gun. It was the 1st Glock that felt comfortable to me. Still prefer my Sig P6 (225) for carry. With 135gr Ex FMJ it will make short work of any bad guy. For home, a full sized 1911 10mm w/ 180gr gold dots is my go to.

Wait, forgot the .45 Super. That is 5. .38 super makes 6!

I have the following in .40 S&W:

Glock 23 (compact, 13 round mag)

Gloack 27 (sub-compact, 9 round mag)

If I could only have one - I would keep the M-23. It is a good balance of fire power with 13 rounds, plus one in chamber. I don't have any problem concealing it.


I would also look at the Springfield XD.....it is similar to the Glock, only I think it is a better pistol. The front sight is dovetailed in and I really like the "grip safety" feature (similar to a M-1911). I feel more comfortable carrying the Springfield with the "grip safety".

I have a Gen IV Glock 22, .40 S&W. Nice pistol, I like it real well. I'm a cast bullet shooter so I put a Lone Wolf barrel on it.

Both the local gun shop owner and I independently settled on the Glock 20, 10 m/m for open and shop/house wear, and a Smith 640 or 940 for concealed use. He is a former Biker, Tattoo Parlor owner and I am a former LEO, et.al. Go figure.

Interesting project.

I thought I came across the name of a barrel maker that was making a barrel for the Glock 40's that would be chambered for the 9mm and allow for only a change of the barrel to take you from a .40 to a 9mm. The slide would be the same as well as the magazines and going from 40 to 9mm would allow for 2 more rounds in the mag.

Is that the company you are planning to use and what is the name of the company?

the Lone Wolf Distributing frame is the Gen4 equivalent for 9mm and 357 Sig and 40 S&W. My guy has me looking at the 9mm and it's 33 round Korean magazines. I would guess that the 357Sig/40 S&S would require a different slide and magazines, along with the barrel change.

I bought a like-new Browning BDM in 9mm a couple weeks ago, so the Glock is on the back burner til fall.

I may have to live to be a hundred to finish all the firearms projects I have underway now.
