45/70 Govt. What Do You Use To Cover Your Ass?
I had a State Trooper remark that his Colt Gold Cup was, "only to cover my ass until I can get to the long guns in the trunk of the cruiser."
My first two options are:
AK-47, 75 rd, drum mag, and 30 rd, 40 rd mags.
Rem. Mod. 870, "riot gun" -- 20" bbl., Imp Cyl.
-- And then it's Smith 629, 4" bbl. 44 mag. couple Smiths in .357 mag.
-- Couple 1911A1's, 45 ACP.
And then a broad assortment of 9mm semi-auto.
Uzi, Mod. 45, pistol and carbine -- 45 ACP, and 9mm.
We're not necessarily "paranoid" -- but I have a gun collection, focused on self defense.
Sheriff response locally is about 30 minutes. But it's not like someone is going to come up the drive -- 0.3 miles, and confront me.
Mostly, the low crime rate is because the "criminals" realize that messing with us out here in the "woods" will get them seriously shot and killed.

hikerbumMost police shootouts are pretty close range. If you need something more than your handgun, its very tough to beat the stopping power of a 3" 12 ga. slug.

Sort of depends on what I know or don't know.
If I don't know about impending trouble most likely I'd have a Colt Gold Cup 45 acp.
If I think there might be trouble a S&W mod 25 45 Colt and a pocket full of speed loaders.
If I know there's trouble, depending on the local, a Winchester Super X loaded with #4 buck or an AR10 with several 20 round mags.
If I'm feeling really insecure throw in several wine bottles stuffed with rags and filled with gas.
