I have shot the FN pistol low recoil easy to shoot lots of mag cap.

Wouldn't brother me to carry one I sure wouldn't like to take a round.

I have a 5.7, a Sig 220, and a 1911. By far the easiest to shoot and the most pinpoint accurate is the 5.7. It would be much easier to shoot an attacker in the face with the 5.7 than either of the 45s if a body shot proved not worthy due to armor.

never shot the 5.7, but IIRC, they were designed to defeat body armor.

Drewhenrytnt, I would still take a 45 at ranges that you might consider going for a head shot. Here is why, with the 45, go for center mass, double tap, and most people are going to fall down, just because of blunt force, while they are down, then you can decide just where to shoot them.
Just an uninformed theory.

The civilian ammo won't defeat body armor. I've shot them and was surprised at how flat they did shoot at distance. I personally thought it was just a novelty gun until we saw what happened at Ft. Hood. The speed with which you can get off massive amounts of controlled aim shots puts this gun in an entirely new class IMO.

While i'm glad it was the case, the number of wounded vs killed at Ft. Hood gave me pause about the lethality of the 5.7 in a pistol. I give it a A for capacity buy a C+ for stopping a fight.

If memory serves the 5.7 out of a pistol is about equivalent to .22 WMR out of a rifle. Not exactly a potent stopper on something the size of a human being unless you pull off a head shot.

I'd personally rather have a 9mm Luger or bigger.

Ah but isn't that the point?

It is an offensive pistol (if there is such a thing) designed to defeat body armour and inflict a large number of casualties and not a defensive pistol, of last resort, against maybe one or two opponents?

Here in UK I've also seen the Russian version of the cartridge (that I think predates this one by FN) and it is tiny but with a long sharp point.

I shot one a fair amount.
I found it fairly accurate, and it does hold a lot of bullets.

With some types of ammo it will penetrate soft body armour. So if that application is needed it is worth a look.

However, for most Civilian carry, it just does not make a big enough hole for me.

I dunno.
I've shot one and am not just sure where it fits in the LE/Self defense arena.
But, if I had a choice on where to be shot with one, it'd be Antarctica..

And I'll never be there!

Been missed with .223 and .30-06.
Didn't like that either!

I love how folks swear by the .223 for rifles but damn it in pistols!
At 100 yards the 5.7 drops ONE inch.
The PS 90 carbine and the FN5.7 are used all over the world for defense and Offensive weapons.

The first rule is always :
It is better to hit than miss.
A hit with a .223 is always better than Every miss with a .45!

The 5.56mm is more than a thousand feet per second faster with a bullet weighing twice as much. I've interviewed people who have used the 5.7 in shootings. They are using M4s again.

it's the same bullet.
Sure you may find some heavier bullets loaded for .223. But one can shoot a 55 grn slug out of a 5.7 at 2400 fps.

naw, no stopping power there!?

The only 55 gr load I find for the 5.7 is a 1000fps sub sonic.

The rest are much lighter. 40 gr at 2034 and 31 gr at 2350.

Don't forget the frangible 27 grain moving at 2400 fps.
That is a FN standard defense round.
It will penetrate body armor and then break up.

All from a pistol that drops ONE inch at 100 yards!
And there are also custom cut bullets designed to break into thirds on impact.

Don't get me wrong,
I am carrying a 9mm almost every day ( DB9 for it's size )
But my 5.7 will knock you off your feet just as fast.

If I had somebody shooting at me with a handgun, the 5.7 would not be my first choice to arm them with. Secondary fragments make an ugly autopsy report...
