Every Sunday I shoot a couple hundred rounds through a S&W 1911 or a CZ75 in 40 S&W. I always end up with the upper grip screws on the weak hand side getting loose before the end of the range session. Has anybody else experience this? Why does this happen and why more prevalent on the upper weak hand side screws?

On my Colt Government Model, RIA M1911 and Star Model B, it's the strong side (right) grip screws that loosen over and over. Blue LocTite fixes the problem.

I agree, the grips are moving, and what I think has done that to mine is drying and shrinkage of the wood over time.

I had the same problem. I had ill-fitted grips that caused it.

Cracked my grips eventually on the loose-fit ones, but that was because of heavy 45 LC loads in a Ruger.

Yes, the blue stuff works great, the red stuff works better, but if you need something quick and relatively easy, and still not a permanent fix but it will get you through a whole 1000 rounds. Teflon tape, it's cheap, reusable, and you can get the stuff off easier than loctite. Just press and peel 1.1 layer of it for a very tight fit for those fine threads.

If you like your grips and never want to change them, you can just mix some jbweld, spread it out over the whole frame where the grips are and lay the grip and just tighten the screws down -- you'll wear out those grips before you wear out the pistol. But I wouldn't recommend that permanent of a solution...teflon tape

Blue locktite is great but don't use red locktite if you ever want to get the grip screws out. You might invest in some new inserts and hex head grip screws...might help. If not use the blue locktite.

I have a Bersa Thunder 380 with the same issue.

I swiped some clear nail polish from "The Imperial Red-Headed Scorpio" and the problem was solved.

The Sheriff's Office I work for issues SIG P229's and the top strong side grip screws frequently fall out. The grips are all a good fit but they still lose screws.

I've begun using blue Locktite and haven't had a repeat customer yet.
