Walther P22 just won't run.....help wanted
I picked up a Walther P22 for my wife for plinking.
Problem is after many different types of ammo it still doesn't run
Sometimes it leaves the empty in the chamber while other times it jams
Other times it cycles but fails to cock the hammer

This is all very frustrating trying to teach a young shooter how to
Shoot when the pistol is giving you so much trouble

Anyone have one of these small 22's that can throw me some help?

Mine seems to feed and fire anything, so I dont know if I can be much help. I purposely didnt clean it for 5-600 rounds when new just to see how long it would go. It never failed to function.
I think I would try to return it as it seems something must be out of whack. Maybe try some Rem yellowjacket or other hyper velocity ammo to see if it would break in??

My son has a P22 and was very frustrated when he first started shooting it because it wouldn't cycle. He started asking around about hotter rim fire ammo and found a brand of ammo that would run in it, but I am unsure of the brand. It seems like he uses Eley ammo but like I said not totally sure.

It may have a problem just because it's new .Try a thorough claning and lube.
What ammo are you using ? 22lr has a standard velocity and a high velocity .Try the high velocity.

I had the same problem with my Walther P22 brand new out of the box. It would not shoot lead bullets so I went to CCI copper jacketed bullets. I think they where stingers. Cost more but no problems so far.

I bought a used one back around 1980 and although it had been shot, it always gave me the same problems. Perhaps it was ammo-dependent, but I never could develop enough confidence in it. I got rid of mine.

My son wore one of these out before he graduated to bigger guns (took about 10000 rounds). They won't run with dirty or low power ammo and definately need a break in. Try Mini Mags and lots of lube

I know two people that own them. They are very sensitive to the ammo used. Once the owners found a brand that worked and kept using them, they were satisfied. They were extremely accurate, just didn't feed worth a hang.

Me, I couldn't stomach that.

ive owned 2 of these. both a 3.4" barrel and a 5". both ran without issue with the walmart bulk pack federal. they absolutely would not shoot the winchester 333 pack but neither will any of my other 22's. when i was looking to purchase the first i did some reading and found that most people recomended polishing the slide rails and also check the ends of the slide rails for burs. i went ahead and polished the rails and took a small file and just barely knocked the sharp corners off of the rails. i put aprx 5k rounds through the 2 with no issue other than the winchester 333 pack as mentioned above. on and keep it lubed but thats not really any different than any other rimfire.

i finally sold both of them and went with a ruger 2245 not due to any problems but i purchased a can and the short grip, 5" barrel, and then a can hanging off the end made for a dis-proportioned weapon so i opted for a fullsize grip.

My brother had the same problems with his Walther. He tried lots of different types of ammunition, but that didn't help. He finally bought a new magazine and now it works perfectly.
