Took delivery of my new Ed Brown Special Forces 1911 recently. I've managed to pack away about 500 Winchester 230 gr FMJ bullets and 1000 Hornady 230 gr encapsulated bullets. Given the following which powder, powder weight would you use at what velocity to break in my new prize?

you dont need to use anything specific to break in a 1911. I usually run a box or two of white box winchester through a new 1911 but that isnt because its some majic load. What i do it for is because i use cast bullets i like to run a box or two of jacketed through my gun to smoother up the barrel. But on something like an Ed Brown gun it doubt thats nessisary. If i paid the price they ask for an ed brown it better perform perfectly out of the box with any load that is compatible with the spring setup.

230 gr. Ball ammo at around 800fps is pretty much a standard 45acp load. Doesn't really matter how you get there...

IMO, there are three powders you have listed that are most applicable: Bullseye, Titegroup and Clays (is that universal or just plain clays?).

Of the three, I'd go with Bullseye. The longer I've reloaded pistol, the more often I end up going back to Bullseye and Unique. Nothing wrong with the others...just that so much work has been done with those powders and they are so proven I just don't see a need to do much else...
