Need help with Colt 1911 question
I have an opportunity to pick up a Colt model 1991A1, series 80 stainless matte finish.

The seller had a stroke and I can't talk to him, but his son in law said he thinks the guy bought the 1911 about 15 years ago, and it appears to be in very good condition. It is the full sized model.

What is a fair price to pay for this gun? I have no idea what this gun is worth.

In good shape, it's worth about $850, a fair price would be between $750 & $800, or otherwise buy a new one.

JMHO, if you give less than $750 you did good.

Back in 2004, I bought my blued 1991a1 for $450 at a pawn shop. Was a steal. Two to three years later I saw one with visible rust for $750 and he wouldn't come down a cent. animal I told him he was crazy and he asked me to leave. I've spent more than $700 for Colt's and I've yet to regret it.

Thank you. Those opinions do help, as I agreed to purchase it for $750.

Fair price, you'll be pleased. Buy quality mags for it & the 1911 will not let you down. I have switched to gun grease on my 1911s for the slide rails. It stays put, the gun will run better/longer between cleanings. Have fun!

Fred, thanks for the advice. I'll try the gun grease. Fortunately, it came with two extra mags and a hard case.

I have had good luck with Tetra Gun Grease, and Prolix Xtra Lube on handgun slide rails etc.

Shooters choice in the syringe is pretty good too.

I use a lot of Break Free as well.

In real dusty conditions I use Prolix.
