Deke10mm Auto Self Defense Round
Want to know a good manufacturer of 10mm Auto Self Defense Ammo. Have read that 180gr bullets at 1150fps is ideal. I am not particularly recoil sensitive since I have a 44Mag 629 Mtn Gun that is the same weight as the 10mm Auto in S&W 1006. I shoot 200gr bullets @ 1050fps from the 629 real well. This load has the same recoil as the 180's @ 1150fps. Most manufactured loads I have seen offer less velocity from the 10mm. Does anybody know of 180gr 1150fps loads that I can buy? What do people think about the CorBon powerball 135's @1400fps?

RustyA detective for the Houston Police dept. who volenteers as one of our RSO at Bayou Rifles, told me that of all the bullets he has seen in shooting reports the Golden Sabres/Gold Dots functioned as advertised every time!

DekeI am also a big fan of Gold Dots, but I have looked and don't know of anybody that manufactures 10mm Auto with them. I don't know if I am taking the "don't use handloads for conceal carry" thing too far, but I don't want my kids visiting me in prison if this point has merit.

DekeThanks for the link. That is some hot ammo (especially from the factory)! Have you chronographed any of it? The 230gr equalizer looks interesting. The equalizer and the 155gr GD have the least recoil of the 155gr+ pojectiles, and no pun intended, capable of a good double tap. The other stuff looks like it might be difficult to double tap.

Deputy AlI have a S&W M-1026 (5" barrel, SIG-style decocker) that goes out in public on occasion. Call me "old school", but the Silvertips are the ammo I carry. 175 grainers at ~1280 FPS from my pistol....seems like it would work. Unlike the 9mm, 40 S&W, and 45 ACP--I had no forensic experience during my career with fired slugs from a 10mm.
I use the RCBS 200 grain TC cast boolit at 1100 FPS for hunting.

Cobra,

Mbartel,
The double tap has been dissapointing and they have yet to respond to my email or phone message I left them. I have started another discussion on this

Considering that those in the business will tell you that it's hard to find a bad 40S&W round almost anything ought to work very well in the 10mm !!

C. A. PlaterI chronographed a box of the DT 180 grain practice load in my RZ-10. Average Velocity was 1293.

Allan DeGrootHehe... I still have a couple of boxes of the OLD hornady loading with a 180gr XTP @ 1300
Those are "stout"
What's truely inspring are the even older
Original Norma loads, the 200gr
bullet at 1250 is even more stout.
I have one box left of the Norma 200's at 1200fps.
