Just read a story on restoring an Evans 500.
He, Nick Tooth did a perfect job for far less than the other quote.
Mr. Tooth was trained by J. Purdey & Sons.

I live 20 miles from this shop. I do not know anything about his stock finishing but Nick fixed my friends bolt on his CZ last year when no one else could figure it out.

Into my heart on air that kills
From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?
That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again.

You guys out there have a good thing going. This E&C

place plus Champlins about 300 miles away means good

repairs and service for DR's for sure. I'm an hour from

Griffin and Howe. They are known for smithing and high

end sales including some vintage doubles, but I think

that when it comes SPECIFICALLY to DR's you guys out near

these two firms have it better than I do. Very good for

you guys, ENJOY IT!!!!! Smiler

BigFiveJack,

Actually we used to have it even better. That was when Westley Richards was in Springfield, Missouri.

I sometimes think back to those days just a few years ago when one could walk into that room sized safe.

Double rifles lined the walls and in the middle of the room sat some tables piled with Makers cases with more double rifles in them. Under the table on the floor were even more.

All were for sale for what then seemed like very high prices - today those prices would be a dream. Unfortunately BATF put Bob Francis in jail and that was the end of that.

Today in Springfield we have Bass Pro's fine gun room. I was in there today and they only had two Merkel double rifles and those were priced way too high. Progress.
