Texas Blue DevilZoli O/U 450/400,...Thoughts
I found a new unfired Zoli O/U 450/400 for $7,000.
I know the guy that has the rifle. After his first ever elephant hunt earlier this year, he has lost interest in the 450/400 as a hunting caliber. He is now love with the 500 nitro.
Back to the rifle in question. The Zoli O/U has 26 inch barrels and empty it weighs 8 pounds 13 oz. Back in June I fondled it for about an hour. It feels great at the shoulder. It also has a real nice stock, almost too nice.
It seems like a nice rifle for buff and eland. I'm not bothered by the O/U vs S/S issue.
How would the recoil be on a sub 9 pound 450/400? How is accuracy/regulation typically on Zoli double rifles?
He originally paid $9500 for this rifle. What do you guys think? Is a Zoli worth $7K?
Thanks!!

470EvansYou can get a new one for $8,500.
http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas...categoryId=SEARCH_glI haven't handled or shot one so I can't comment on the Zoli but unless I'm hard up against my budget limit I'd spend a little more and get a known gun.

I've been looking at the Zolis for a couple of years now. Alas, never shot one.
Based on the information I have been able to gather, they're very accurate.
Typically they're regulated @ 50 meters and the test shoot targets usually show the bullet holes touching.
If the gun feels good, I have no reason to expect it to be a dog to shoot.
However, based on my experiences last summer shooting O/U doubles in 9,3x74R I sure advise you to shoot the gun before buying.
Chime in on
Nitro Express, won't you; there have been a couple of threads about the Zoli O/U's.

Dutch44Do they manufacture a SxS as well as the over-under?

SchauckisThey used to, but they don't seem to be listed anymore.
WebsiteI seem to recollect some mentioning the Zoli SxS double rifles on the nitroexpress.com forums, and speaking fairly highly of them.
I suppose that the custom shop will be happy to make you one on order....

Larry Sellers470E -
He said the rifle was "unfired" so I would assume that it is new?? Could have been used as a jack handle I suppose?

470EvansHe's wondering if he should buy a gun of unknown quality.
Buy it new from Cabelas and if there is a problem you get your $ back.
Buy it "unfired" from the "wealthy" Texas friend and good luck if there is a problem.
I learned a long time ago that it never hurts to buy quality equipment from a reputable dealer.

GanyanaWrite to Zoli giving serial number and ask what loads it was regulated for. I am holding a 9,3x74R which wouldn't shoot with any load I tried in it until I discovered it was regulated for the 232rn loading not the standard 286! Once I had the right ammo it shot very well.
Fortunately it isn't my rifle! but the client wasn't very happy with its performance and asked me to work up some loas for it before this years hunt!
