Black Powder Pressure Data in Wright's Book???
I have Wright's book somewhere, the 2nd Ed. I think, but it has been buried under too much junk as I can't find it at the moment.

If anyone is more organized then I and just happens to have their copy(ies) handy, did Wright ever measure pressures for the black powder loads?

Thanks.

If there is a comparison between the .450 NE and the .450 Nitro for Black, that would be of interest. Where my copy is I don't know.

According to Kynoch the .450 NE spits out a 500 gr. bullet at 2150 ft/s and 17 tonnes in a 28" barrel.

The .450 Nitro for Black is chucking a 350 gr. at the same velocity in the same 28" bsrrel but they don't say what the pressure might be.

If there is a 1 to 1 comparison for pressure difference that you could supply, that would be great.

Will,

Another source for black powder or nitro for black pressures would be Sherman Bell's articles in Double Gun Journal if Wright doesn't have what you're looking for. Bell did a lot of comparisons, iirc.

Peter,

Excellent.

It shows, like everybody but I knew already, that indeed the mass of black powder has to be twice or more the weight of smokeless powder to get to the same place.

Thanks.

Bill
