Loads for 450 NE, North Fork 450 CPS
A good friend (who sold off all his reloading stuff years ago) just bought Will's 450 NE Sabatti from the AR classifieds. I am going to load for him, and am just looking for whatever you 450 guys might have cooked up for these bullets. All things considered, I'd prefer to avoid using filler.

Start out with a load for a 480 gr and you should be close.

I sold a 500-450 recently and have a bunch of reloads for it. The bullets are 480 grains IIRC. Also have the reloading dies.....Can you use any of it????

If avoiding filler is a requirement, then a slow powder such as IMR 4831. Charge will be somewhere in the 90-95 grains depending on the rifle with a heavier bullet of 480-500 grains. For a 450-grain bullet, a bit more powder maybe, but you will have to do a bit of load adjusting for regulation.
Cheers,
Cal

Cal is right on the 450NE 3 1/4 inch! That is a good starting point with either bullet.

I like to stick with the original bullet weight in a double rifle simply because the vintage doubles were always regulated with the 480 gr bullet so that is what I have always used. I like the H-4831sc powder rather than the longer cut H-4831. The sc powder also runs through a powder measure of trickler better.

Thanks, guys!
Oddly, I called Hornady today, fishing for info. They sent me data for their 480 DG bullets, and it shows a max load for IMR4831 of 88.5gr for a velocity of 2100. I spoke with Butch Searcy and he suggested 96gr of IMR4831, which is consistent with the numbers suggested here. The Graeme Wright book lists 95gr for a 480gr Woodleigh. It looks like working up will be the order of the day. The Hornady data looks like an outlier.
