Being left handed I was wondering how much cast off there is on some of your doubles. Specificly the smaller framed Chapuis and Merkels (140, 141) with standard factory stocks. It would be a realy good thing to know just in case I find one for sale on the internet and decide to buy it on line.

My fear is that they have alot of cast off, making them very difficult for lefty's to use. I have a Beretta SxS shotgun with a lot of cast off that is totaly useless to me, lesson learned.

Also a lefty, I went up to Woodcock Hill and had Glenn Baker do some gunfitting. His result is that I can use 1/2" of cast on.

I own and shoot some old doubles. Bad news is that all are right handed; good news is that all have cheek pieces the effect of which is to minimize cast off and make the rifles nearly neutral cast to we lefties who shoot them from the bare side of the stock . I've had shotguns bent to neutral cast or even a tad cast on as well. Not a tough job if the stock does not have a through bolt.

As important are the triggers. If you can do it, have your smith heat them up and turn them somewhat for your left trigger finger.

As a stock maker I have always believed that 1/2 inch of cast is too much of a good thing. I would suggest a second opinnion, it can't hurt.

I have always been of the opine that if you are left handed then the cast on becomes cast off for you, and visa versa...
