Kreighoff 470 stock dim/regulation ammo pre-purchase questions
Hi Folks,

Looking at a Krieghoff 470 purchase and I had a few questions that would be helpful in my purchase decision.

1) The rifle was built in 2005 I believe based on the test target. I understand that Krieghoff changed the stock deminsions to have less drop for less felt recoil. Is there an easy way to tell if this rifle has the newer design of stock? Was there a data when they began using the newer design? The stock does that the break-weight.

2) The rifle was regulated with W-R ammunition I believe. Would Federal, Norma or Hornady ammo regulate as well? Also, I thought it was odd that the test target had four holes (two groups about 1.25" apart). Most dbl test targets that I have seen had two holes. Is this a Krieghoff thing?

Thanks in advance as money is burning significant hole in my pocket!

I have a Blaser that was also regulated with WR .470 ammo with a 500 grain Woodleigh. My gun would not shoot Hornady ammo. The Hornady ammo runs at the "new" standard which is about 2150 fps out of a 24 inch barrel. The WR ammo is much closer to the old Kynoch ammo. The old Kynoch ammo was 2125 fps but that was out of a 31 inch barrel. Most of the older guns regulated closer to 2000 fps at the muzzle. My gun regulated at around 2025 with my handloads. At 50 meters, the faster Hornady ammo was crossing noticeably.

I know my Kreighoff was regulated with the same W-R ammo. It shoots Federal both woodleighs and bear claws as regulated. I was skeptical to shoot the Hornady's but at one third the cost of the federals I had to try them. I have since fired 8 boxes of Hornady soft points out of my gun and notice no difference. I shot the stopping gun tournament 2 years in a row using the Hornady ammo with no problems or difference in regulation.
All shooting was done at under 50 yards.

No good deed goes unpunished.

Don't know what my .470 K-gun was regulated with, but it shoots Federal softs AND solids right at the (fixed sight) point of aim with a 6 o'clock hold.

Thanks everyone! I pulled the trigger today...so to speak. Should be a fine rifle.
