JPKIn the limked thread others have provided some of the more common and often used cartridges, but the proffesional elephant hunter and others used other that you might find interesting.
600NE - actually used more than you might think.
577NE - used quite a bit.
450NE No2 - on the 3 1/2" case, pretty common. Taylor's and Nychen's, amoungst others, favorite cartridge.
500/450NE - fairly common in earlier rifles.
375 H&H Flanged Magnum - not too common.
476WR - a flanged NE round that fits between the 450/470 class and the 500, shoots a 520gr bullet.
8 Bore - classic express round for smaller DG.
6 Bore - not many I think.
4 Bore - original elephant medicine.

Jeff WemmerI hear the .404 & FAL (7.62 x 51) were the most widely used cartridges for culling during the ill-fated Tetse fly eradication scheme in Rhodesia....Zillions of animals were shot with these....Don't forget the 7.62 x 39 & 7.62 x 54R that took part in the harvesting of an estimated 80K Buff in Moz by the Russians and the same was used to wipe out the Scimitar horned Oryx and Adax...
404 & 7.62 x 39, 51, 54R...

nitro450expThanks for feedback so far.
Unforntunately romantic safari's occur in books only, where the ivory hunter and or PH are equipped with H&H Royals.
Sounds like most game suffers the indignity of being shot with a .303 brit, 7x57 or some military FMJ in the 7.62 class.
Here is my list of cartridges (in no particular order) I will include on my display, I may make 2 displays, one NE Flanged rounds and one Bolt action rounds.
.300 H&H
9.3 x 62mm Mauser
.375 H&H
.416 Rigby
.400 Purdy
450 - 400 3" NE
450 - 400 3 1/4" NE
.404 Jeffery
10.75 x 68mm Mauser
.425 Express WR
.458 Win Mag
.450 3 1/4" NE
500 - 465 NE
.470 NE
.475 No. 2 NE
.500 3" NE
.505 Gibbs
.500 Jeffery
.577 3" NE
.600 3" NE
.700 3" NE
This is by no means complete, but a representative sampling of goddies but oldies.
Keep the input comming.
Thanks

NitrodaveI would think that the 450 #2 would qualify? I also like the 450-Ackley But lately the Lott has overshadowed it...shame.
