Look, I sincerely hope that Heym has brought it all together and more or less reproduced a classic boxlock - Webley long bar preferably - at a great price. If they did, then they move way up in line for capturing some of my money.
Problem is right now, for Heym and every other current maker, is that the market is depressed and a good quality classic boxlock is priced as low today as they have been in years.
That is what they will be competing against.

There has got to be a way for a factory production based gunmaker like heym to build a double for $10k. Straight grained walnut, no engraveing, and monobloc barrels. I would love to know what their cost is on a $17K entry double.

Caveat Emptor: I have little real practical experience with double rifles.

Mr. Masters: Respectfully and in good humor, the 10K monobolck rifle you just described is called a Merkel.

Heym USA did a limited run called the Jaeger (German for hunter) model about 2011-2012. The entire run had Standard dimensions, neutral cast, no cheekpiece, standard 26 inch barrels, shoelump barrles, and intercepting sears, black nitrated receiver (very sharp). The price on the run was 13K a unit (I think). They were offered in one caliber 450ne.

This was a one off run of 10 rifles, but call Mr. Sells at Heym USA and see what he can do. It never hurts to ask. Mr. Sells is a good guy.

So if one was developing a “checklist” so to speak of English boxlock double rifle characteristics, what would that checklist look like:

- Flat back receiver
- No bolsters on the receiver
- Long bar action
- Ejectors (although extractors would be acceptable too)
- Properly proportioned splinter forearm (i.e., relatively short and compact)
- Anson, Deeley or lever forearm release
- Relatively thin, open pistol grip without palm swell
- Teardrops or drop points
- Drop at comb set up for open sights
- Barrels, butt stock and forearm proportioned to give an overall svelte look
- Silver’s or Silver’s type recoil pad
- Others?

Is it titled "Heym Safari"? If that's the one you're talking about, I believe that is just a standard 88B Safari model and not the new rifle they are eluding to in the video

I was just going post "what ever happened to.." about this rifle. I saw one at Reno and really liked it. Thanks for the info.

No it is not the 88.It is a new model just introduced-the model 89.It has a "Webley screw-grip boxlock action"

Thats certainly a big improvement aesthetically on the 88,
As Oz said , would like to see a full length photo to assess the forend and barrel profile.

A step in the right direction imo.

This may be a very minor point, but that safety is really nice. Both models safeties work and work right. I am not saying otherwise, but it is a noticable improvement when you manipulate it.

Thanks, Mac. We missed having you at the shoot.

A few have reached out about this rifle and asked if it will replace the 88B. No, the 89B is in addition to the model 88B.

More details on the rifle will follow soon, but - in the interim - please note that the model 89B is not "vaporware"... which is to say that one rifle has been built, and someday we might build more... The 89B has been in development and testing for several years, and there are real rifles currently in production. We will have several at the shows.

Wait until you see a photo of it with case colors...

Price-wise, the 89 will be a little more expensive than the 88. You will find the base model 89 to fit between the "PH" grade and the "Safari" grade (assuming you're familiar with the 88 lineup.) Of course as more engraving, nicer wood, etc... are added, the price will naturally increase.

We will release more details on the rifle over the next few weeks as we finish them up, and we will have all of the pricing gaps filled in soon. In the interim, thanks for everyone's patience, and thanks for the compliments on the rifle. We are very pleased with the end result.

Never gave the Heym a second glance due to the lines of the back of the action.

Classic English looks and dynamic handling.......along with rock solid reliability...... is what gets us all "hot and sweaty" about double rifles and I am pleased that Heym have realised it.

I thought the heym was a fine looking rifle already. This is a very nice concession to those desiring the English look. Again, I give Heym a great deal of credit for listening to their customers, it is clear they want to both make, and keep them.
