Old British double refresh

gunslinger55Old British double refresh
Ok finally I am seriously contemplating getting my 1923 Wilkinson .470 refreshed. Sent an email to Champlain as they list the services and I believe are well regarded. No reply as of yet.
Who would be the best to do a refresh barrel black recut scroll recoil pad light stock work? Not looking for museum quality necessarily or multiple years of work. it’s an old India gun been rode hard and deserves a refresh.
I posted this years ago so checking on current double smiths. Thanks

reddy375I have done exactly this to my grandfather 375 flanged mag H&H. Its been in our family for 3 generations and I have pics of my grandfather and father with Tigers etc they shot with it. I have also used it a lot, no Tigers but a lot of everything else!
JJ did all the work. My thinking at the time was that I would end up with a new H&H rifle. I wish now that I had it made mechanically sound and left it as it was. An 80 year + rifle cannot be made new looking whatever you do to it, regardless of who is dong the work. IMO better to enjoy it as it is and let the old finish or lack of be testament to its use and life.

Dutch44I believe that Aaron is winding down and not taking any new work. I would give him a call but I wouldn't get my hopes up.
He does amazing work though if he is still working.

gunslinger55Good points but the rifle is tight as a drum and mechanically sound so it’s cosmetic issues that would really make it great but I could live with it as is but a few cosmetic things like recoil pad bigger front sight and fix the sling mounts would be pretty nice. Bluing and woodwork secondary

We are doing well, the “new” dog is one of the many dogs that are dropped off near our place, usually I feed them once and they move along. This one didn’t leave, very young and very scared, so…Rebecca decided to take care of it. We posted photos around and she did the same on social media, no results. So, a visit to Dr Scott got vaccinations up to date and another visit took care of any possibility of puppies and now the little dog is living the good life!
