Thinking of adding another double .........
I'm thinking of adding a couple more SXS rifles to my battery in the next few months; currently I have (1) Chapuis .470, (2) Searcy 450/400 (on the way), (3) Chapuis 9.3X74R, (4) C&H .375 2 1/2", and (5) Tikka OU 9.3X74R. I'm leaning towards possibly ordering a Searcy .577 and when an opportunity arises, maybe a small-bore English or a 7MM rimmed version of the Chapuis or Merkel. What are your thoughts; this is not need-based, I know, because I figure the .470 & 9.3 would obviously handle anything anywhere. Just doing a little wishing & planning ..... thanks for your input.

Tony: To be honest, I've haven't given much thought to a drilling, hence I'm not too familiar with what to look for when shopping for one. New gun, used gun, caliber & bore choice, etc.; what's your thoughts ?

You can buy them used for pennies on the dollar (in terms of what it would cost to have one built today).

Get a 16/16/8x57R or JR. &x57 is a little light but good for NA. 9.3x72R is a weakling. 9.3x74R is very desirable but hard to find. That's a great setup for plains game hunting with birds. Get one with a scope mount of some sort, if it's a claw mount make sure you get the rings or the whole scope setup as well.

We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are forced to purchase and fined if we don't, Which purportedly covers at least ten million more people, without adding a single new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that didn't read it but exempted themselves from it, and signed by a President, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, for which we'll be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, by a government which has already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke!!!!! Of all the drillings I have handled I like the Sauer 3000, or Colt Sauer drillings the best.

They are the same gun, Colt brought them in under their name for a few years.

They handle like a nice double barrel shotgun.
They are not clunky at all. In fact it is lighter and handles better than my Browning Cotori O/U.

My wife and I both have one in 12x12x30-06.

I think a lot of the 9,3x74R but they are hard to find. All the Colt Sauers I have seen are either a 243 or a 30-06 in the rifle bbl.

If you hunt feathered game where furred game is in season at the same time they are great.
We really like ours.

Both our guns have scopes in claw mounts.

Frank,

You already have a lovely selection of DRs and other DG rifles. Buy a really nice camera and take what you have hunting! I know you have a trip planned to Australia for Water Buf ... plan another trip for an old Dugga Boy or an El.

Mike:
Going to Dallas in two weeks to do just that ..... I'm not going to make another purchase for a while. Just considering what my options might be for possibly later in 2007. I'm planning on African buffalo in 2008.
