Manton & Webley Records???

I just picked up a Manton .360 #2 on a Webley action. I would assume it was Webley made for the trade. The Manton number is HV08675. Does anyone know if the Manton records exist and where they are? There is a number on the barrels that I'm assuming is a Webley number since it's a Webley Action. The number is 69129. Does anyone know if the Webley records exist and where they are? I'm looking for any info possible including year make, ledger info, and providence. Thanks!

Hi Brett,

Is there a small number alongside the forend loop? If it's a Webley built rifle a # will be there. If so, let me know what it is and I'll be able to rough date the gun.

Unfortunately, there are no record for Webley built rifles and what remains of the Manton company is nonresponsive.

Post pictures if you can, I'd love to see the rifle. Congratulations.

N E 450 No2

The 360 No2 is a good cartridge. At its velocity levels I would use Woodleigh 320 gr. Softs and Solids.

The 286 gr. Woodleigh's have worked great in my 9,3x74R for all game from coyotes and caracal, to black bear, giraffe, cape buff, and elephant.

If that's the small # by the forend loop it doesn't sound like a Webley. The latest Webley # in my database is 13,857 which was made in January of 1926. Have to see pictures to tell but a 360 #2 would be unusual to have been built much later and the # wouldn't have been close to 69k.

There were a # of other trade makers other than Webley that built guns for Manton as well as many other retailers. It's pretty common for rifles to be attributed to Webley when they were built by others.

I have asked this before here on this forum. Mantons seems to have a shop in India, but they do not do in guns anymore.
My Manton DR do not have the "HV" in front of the serie#.
