Do some searching of that topic here and you will learn more. In short, it is not the gross chamber pressure that matters; modern chrome moly steel insures that any NE cartridge pressure will be easily contained. (Hoop strength) It is the pressure against the breech face that matters, and most shotguns are built to withstand enough for a NE cartridge too; remember, for a 12 gauge, having a large surface area for the pressure to act against, transmits about the same as a much smaller, NE cartridge, with higher chamber pressure. I can give you numbers, but you can work them out yourself. Pi R squared.
Bottom line, you can't compare shotgun pressures against rifle pressures and make assumptions.
