Are the 500 3" & the 470 the same case?

The 470 is .25" longer but in general, are they the same?
What I'm getting at, is, can 500 3" be made from 470 brass?

Yes you can. In the dark ages of the 60's and 70's that was about the only way to get 470 cases. Reform 500 3 1/4" cases. Therefore the reverse is also true.

Further, for 500 NE 3 1/4" cases, one
can use full length 470 NE cases "blown
open".
