75% rule confirmed again
Had my new (to me anyway) 450/400 3 1/4 Evans back at the range today to see how it shot with the Hornady RN .410 400grs and the Hornady SP .411 300 gr.

Last weekend we dialed it in with the 400gr Woodleigh softs. The gun crossed with R-15 but shot great with 80gr IMR 4831 @ 2140fps.

The gun has a .408 bore so I ran the Hornadys through a Corbin sizing die to take them to .408.

I didn't have a lot of time but found with 80grs of IMR4831 the Hornady 400grs shot well but crossed slightly. I'll need to knock back a grain or two and try them again.

The 300grs Hornady shot dead to the sights with a 1" group at 50 yds. Can't get much better than that.

Guys, I have heard people talk about the "75% rule" a lot. Can someone explain it to me?

75% of the bullet weight the gun was regulated for
and the same powder and the gun should regulate.

As above, 400gn bullet - 75% of the bullet weight is 300gns.
The gun regulated OK.

Works with most calibres I know of, 500's in NE and BP especially well.
