Wasn't DO "Winchester's Man if Africa" for many years promoting the .458 Model 70? I seem to recall an old advertisement in my files stating such.

Yes. And there is a short section on him in Brian Herne's fantastic White Hunters. There is also a picture of him in the book. He was born in India and was a friend of Jim Corbett.

That's what I have read about him. He favored the Model 70 in .375 H&H. He was featured in several Winchester adds.
