Famars African Express Double Rifle

Hello All, I have been a long time admirer of AR, but this is my first post.

I am considering purchasing a Famars African Express double rifle in 470 NE. I believe the quality of these rifles is first rate, but not having had the chance to handle or fire one of these rifles, I will lean on the collective expertise of the AR members for some insight.

If anyone has had some experience with these double rifles I would certainly appreciate your comments, thanks.

Very Limited experience in that I have handled them twice at Shows. I liked what I saw, felt etc.

The VP of sales actually dismantled a shotgun for me so I could see how it worked.

Have always been impressed with the guns made by them - shotguns and rifles.

Can't comment on anything else like shootability but I reckon they wouldn't sell anything bad. Good luck.

Me too have been looking into African Express double.
An enquiry I did here the other day regarding a .600Nitro was that their Baseprice was
Eu$ 24000 for the extractor and aprox another 1000 with ejectors. A similar gun made in britain would be 70% higher.
I am considering seriously to have the African Express model made one day

I have not fired a Famars, however every one that I have handled seem to be a high quality rifle! I love their extended top strap!

Ive handled a Famars but not fired it
Ive handled a Berretta 455e but not fired it.
Ive handled a few H&H SxS rifles....the .300H&H was a heavy dog of a thing.
I usually found SxS 9,3x74r rigs to be most delightful ie; lighter and more lively.

Some years ago, 15? or 20?, Famars made doubles for Champlin Firearms in the style of a pre-war Rigby. I remember seeing one in the Enid shop and George commenting that he liked the resulting rifle but the delivery time was too slow for his tastes so they were discontinued. Does anyone else remember these rifles?

Retreever's DR is one, in 450 No. 2.

I have a Famars and it is a charm shoots 450, 480, and 500gr ammo the same. No tweeking required.

FAMARS guns are super nice. I have 2 on order. I have been waiting a little over 2 years. If you decide to get one be ready to wait awhile!

Super nice guns though! FAMARS used to produce all the barrels and actions for WJ Jeffery/Paul Roberts--I think Paul now works with Peter Hambrush. FAMARS also did most of the actions for the H&H round action too. Top shelf stuff!!!!!
