It is a Merkel shoe lump barreled extractor barrel set rifle with a Kick~ease recoil pad in a Merkel factory fitted case, RCBS dies, shell holder and trim die. I also have about 100 once fired 470NE Federal nicol plated brass, for reloading.
I'm 77 yrs old and on a fixed income so will likely never again hunt Africa so the 450/400NE 3 inch would be more usefull for me and the 470NE would give you a bigger hammer. Think about it if we could make a deal and the transfer wouldn't be too much I'm open to a trade depending on what rifle you have.
Mac,
I have sent you a PM

Die Ou JagterMacD and #2 let me get this straight. I have the 470 and the 9.3 in doubles, I have a 12ga with 9.3X74R combo so if I add the 450/400 in a double I should be good to go. I do have the 450/400 in a #1, which I do enjoy shooting. I have used the 9.3X74 double as my whitetail gun replacing my 9.3 X74 #1. Do like some omph.

N E 450 No2Yes you would be very good to go.
The 450/400 would give you a backup to your 470, just in case your 470 developed some sort of problem just before a trip to a hunt.
I would also recommending scoping your 450/400 double.
Anything I can do with a scoped 404/416 bolt rifle I can do, and have done, with a scoped 450/400 double.
Unless I was hunting ONLY elephants, if I could have only one double, it would be a scoped 450/400.

dpcdI'll jump in here; I love the 450-400 for everything from hogs to buff. BUT, if you want a lighter rifle, don't get a Krieghoff; seems they use the same barrel size for everything, so my K 450-400 ends up weighing 12 pounds. And has no recoil at all.

Use Enough GunAnd get you a Trijicon RMR to use with your 450-400 too. Then you have the best of all worlds: Open sights, scoped rifle or a red dot reflex sight.

eezridrI always read the 45 caliber and above safari type rifles were "stopping" rifles.
I guess that is if a good bullet is placed properly.
Perhaps the difference.....
