WTS Chapuis double rifle 9.3x74R with Upgraded Wood

Just got a few NIB Chapuis UGEX 9.3x74R double rifles with upgraded wood (4 star). All guns have ejectors, right hand cheek piece with scroll engraving (no animals). I have both coin finish and case colored finished guns available. These are priced at $5050.

I also have the same guns described above with UGEX standard grade wood (3 star) for $4700.

Add $50 shipping to the first 48 states.

Recknagel (German made) piviot mount including base and 1" rings for the Chapuis UGEX or RGEX.
$335 shipped in the US.

Pictures of upgraded wood available on request.

Sorry, all the Chapuis have double triggers. I do have a NIB Merkel 141 in 9.3x74R with a single trigger, ejectors, and the rib is factory precut for a scope mount. The Merkel has a thin factory pad, right hand cheek piece and Euro hump to the comb. $5050 shipped in the first 48 states.

And the Merkel 140E 9.3x74R double rifle weighs 8.3 lbs, and has 24" barrels. Unfortunently the US importers are not importing the 140E now! I have one, and I wish I had bought three of them when I bought mine, for $4600 brand new, in the fitted case! I can guarantee you wouldn't get mine for $10K today!

I have been toying with the idea of a 9.3X74R as my first double but I think they are all too light. I want one like yours that weighs AT LEAST eight pounds and preferably a little more with barrels that are 24 to 26 inches in length. You are right to hang on to yours.

All of my personal sxs 9.3's wear a scope, so my guns range from 7 3/4lb to 8.5 lb (with the scope). I had a Merkel 160 (20ga size frame and same as a 140 except a sidelock action) and with a 30mm Zeiss scope it tipped the scale at close to 9.5 lb. It was a nice gun and shot well but this was more weight than I felt necessary and sold the gun.

Respectfully, I could not disagree with you more! The 7.3 lb. Chapuis I had was a delight to shoot and hunt with.

And it is one of the few things that I disagree with of my "father," John Taylor. He went on about having a heavy enough gun to shoot accurately. Hooey! That sounds to me more like marketing from the heavy gun manufacturers.

I have hunted with my 9,3 Chapuis quite a bit.

I feel that in handles perfectly, with the scope or just the iron sights.

It has 24" bbls which seem perfect to me for the sized frame of the rifle.

My 450/400 has 26"bbls and my 450 No2 has 28'bbls. For the size and frame of those guns I find they handle great as well.

That is one of the things I like about my 9,3 Chapuis over 375 H&H or Flanged Magnum doubles is that is a little sleeker and lighter.

You do not need any extra weight or any type of recoil reducer IMHO.

I can say the Chapuis works pretty good in Idaho on black bear.

I actually shot mine with the iron sights, I had "pulled" the scope off it, as I like to hunt with iron sights sometimes. But I highly recommend you scope it.

Rich, I would be very interested in your impressions of your Chapuis.

I have two 9.3X62's, a Blaser that with a scope weighs in at about 7.5 lbs and a CZ that with a scope weighs in closer to nine pounds. I really prefer the Blaser but I also like the extra weight of the CZ especially with 286 grain bullets.

I am going to defer to you guys who have experience with the 9.3X74R doubles. If the consensus is that 7.5 lbs is enough then so be it.

wilco. I think you will find recoil about the same as your/my CZ FS in 9,3x62. Pretty close on weight and MV/ME levels. The two I have shot point like a 20 gauge quail gun and heft about the same.

Recoil is the same between the Chapuis and that CZ 9.3.

I'd like an 8 lb 9.3 too if I was never going to scope it. If you want it to weigh more add a scope. The 7 lb 9.3s used to bug me too but scoping one is a natural and scoping an 8 pounder may end up a tad heavy. Adding a recoil reducer to a Chapuis is easier said than done as the drawbolt hole isn't a hole but a much larger space.
