Back up rifle for double
Plan on bringing a scoped bolt gun as a backup for my double on a Buff and T-less Ele hunt. For Buff are people bringing their bolt gun with them incase a longer shot is needed? If so who usually carries the extra gun and how are you carrying the extra ammo??

The double stays with me and the tracker carries the scoped .416. I carry the ammo for both. My experience (only two safaris) has been the trackers take pretty darn good care of the spare rifle.

I'm with PSmith.
Did the same on my last safari.

I carried my 600OK as well as ammo for both the 600 and for my scoped .416 Weatherby.

Our tracker - Daneesa - carried the 416 with greatest of care.

Ditto what PSmith said. I have switched my double for the scoped bolt rifle on several occasions, though not for longer shots. Sometimes, in heavy cover or dark shadows, the scope sight is just the better alternative.

Are you carrying the ammo for your bolt gun on the same belt as your double ammo and if so how much of each??

I've had a tracker carry my .375 as a backup for my 458 Lott. I usually leave it in the case. I plan on doing the same this year as a backup to the 470 Nitro.

Tracker carries the scoped .416. I have a really slick "Uncle Mikes" buttstock ammo carrier but unlike most, this one has a full flap that folds over to completely cover the 8 rounds. It keeps them clean and dry as well as stops them from working loose and falling out.
Works so well I now have this same setup on all my heavy bolt guns.
No worries about confusing with the double ammo I have on my belt since there is always a good supply right on the appropriate rifle.

Works well!

My back up rifle is a scoped Tupperware style .375H&H (stainless synthetic) I have a cheap Cabela's cordura shell holder with 10 rounds in it that I fold over and attach to the carrying sling. I keep the magazine loaded with 5 rounds and the chamber empty.

I carry my double and let one of the guys carry my .375H&H.

The compact folding 10 round GALCO "Stalker" is what I use to carry my ammunition for the scoped 9.3 and I carry a minimum of 10 FMJs and 2 Softs for the big bore within a more accessible bullet slip . Any more can be carried in the backpack with the second Tracker who also has the scoped rifle.
