Zigfreed500 NE ammo belts
I have a 500NE and am booking a trip to Africa. Just wondering what the take is an the best ammo belt is and who makes it. I've approached a saddle maker who is very willing to make one, he does very nice western holsters and ammo belts. How many rounds is the norm or preferred? Should it be a belt slide on or a one piece belt. Is elastic and leather a better option? Any pointers on this subject would be appreciated.

MJinesBoth of the ones listed are very nice, particularly Dick Murray's. Another would be the culling belt sold by Trader Keith's.

BiebsI have the Jeff's Outfitters belts in several calibers. Nice, and priced right as well. They're usually on sale....like $39.95 or something.

Dutch44Texas Huntco has a nice elastic one I used. The leather on leather squeaks when wet.

Idaho SharpshooterBuy a vest, that way you have ten rounds evenly balanced five to a side. You can stick softs on one side solids on the other.

Use Enough GunTake a look at Trader Keith's double rifle belts. Same ones that Tony Makris of Under Wild Skies uses. Great belts!

NitrodaveI use the Dick Murray leather belt with elastic. They are top quality and the elastic loops allow to use the same belt with different guns/calibers.

Idaho SharpshooterSnowwolfe,
I bought a green one from the Gander Mtn booth at Reno. Saturday at closing they were 50% off. $29.95 out the door.

ozhunterIMO, You should have at least 12 if not 14 solid rounds at close reach with 2 or so softs seperated form the solids (particuly for Ele or Buff hunts).
Trader Kieth make a great canvas bullet belt and Galco and Dick Murray make good leather pouches.
Trader Kieths "Double Duty" is a superb way to carry a pair of soft rounds that wont get mixed up with solids.

MartyBoyt harness makes a canvas belt that Cabelas sells. It's less than $30. The quality is good.

Jeff Wemmer http://www.texashuntco.com/Pro...ails.asp?ProductID=6http://www.texashuntco.com/Categories.asp?CatID=4These work great with .500 NE. We've been using them extensively and have numerous PHs using the systems....Admittedly not a "traditional" look / approach, but are superior in performance and durability over canvas and leather.
Thanks for looking...

ZigfreedI thank you all for the input; have looked over several options but opted for a custom made 12 round leather belt with a 2" double buckle and lined with soft leather. Being as my rifle has a quick detachable swarovski scope, they are also going to make a holster (with leg band if needed) for my left side belt - detachable of course.

I like the strap that you wrap around your leg to keep the unit in place when you are trying to remove ammo in a hurry.

Idaho SharpshooterSnowwolfe,
I bought mine at SCI Reno from Gander Mtn. Cloth sleeveless vest, green or khaki. I'd model it here for you but we have children viewing some of these posts.
