A couple new doubles for me and the old man
Well after getting the itch last year, me and my dad went down to visit Butch Searcy and place an order for a couple doubles. He's always dreamed of hunting elephant with a nice double. So I settled on the .470 and he went with the .500

Fast forward to last week and I get the call that the rifles are done. We only live a couple hours away so we jumped at the chance to come see them before they ship to the FFL, and at the same time get some rounds in. These are the first doubles we've ever shot, so we also liked the fact that we could get some lessons from Butch himself.

So anyways here we are with the new rifles.

and also a clip of us taking some shots out near the Borax mine in Boron.

Both field grades with minor upgrades. I'll post nicer pics after they are home from the FFL. I can definitely say that the field grades look awesome and ours came with some great looking wood. Not to mention custom fitted to our measurements, which makes shooting these babies a pleasure.

Thanks again to Butch for the communication, attention to detail, hospitality, and just being a great guy to do business with. Also for the mexican food and margaritas. The old man was smiles all the way home. Now its all about planning on what hunt to take them on!

You both have to learn to lean forward ,that will make recoil feel lower and you'll have more control.
Looks like years of fun to come !! dancing

Congratulations, enjoy them. I thought Butch's imitation of a buffalo added some authenticity too.

It was a pleasure having you here Saturday. I know that when you two go on your hunt the Buff is in real trouble.

Now I am concerned that someone will try and put two and two together and infer something that was not intended. My comment about Butch was directed at that portion of the clip that plays in slow motion when Butch is counting down the time to shoot -- it sounds like a buffalo.

Mike, I didn't take it that way. Everyone needs a little humor. If at my expense, that's fine.

It did sound amazingly like a buffalo in slow motion. At first I actually thought someone had dubbed in some buffalo audio then I realized it was just the sound slowed down.

thanks again Butch, I'm already itching to get some more shooting in. It's gonna be an all out competition between me and my dad with these beauties!

I'm also regretting not having gone with B21, so we'll definitely have go for lunch again when I'm in the area.

Fantastic rifles and story.

But did they HAVE to be sent to an FFL? I'm pretty sure the manufacturer could transfer rifles (not handguns) to you legally even if you live in another state as long as laws in your home state are observed.
