500grainsIf you are faced with a choice of buying a gun or going hunting (but not both), take the hunt.

Big MoWhen I would practice at at the range before my pg hunt this past july I would always bump into these two guys from Atlanta. They had doubles in 600n, 577n, and 500n. All were Holland and Holland rifles. I got to shoot the 500 several times and and was impressed with the balance of this rifle and the accuracy at 100yds. I think I have to have one even if I get to hunt with it only a few times they are fun to shoot.

We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are forced to purchase and fined if we don't, Which purportedly covers at least ten million more people, without adding a single new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that didn't read it but exempted themselves from it, and signed by a President, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, for which we'll be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, by a government which has already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke!!!!! Big MoPicked it up yesterday. Wow, what a beautiful rifle! Need to find some ammo and take it to the range. What procedure do you guys follow with a new double to find what works best. I will probably buy a box or two of factory ammo but will definitely reload, these things are expensive. Butch builds a great looking rifle.
You did goooood. Damn fine rifles. Just make sure you hold on to it front and rear when you touch it off the first time.
If you own a gun and you are not a member of the NRA and other pro 2nd amendment organizations then YOU are part of the problem.

Big MoOrdered some rounds from Superior the other day and some brass and bullets from Midway. Hopefully can fire it up on Sat.
I have a Win in 416 rem that is not bad at all ,how does the 470 recoil compare?
18 August 2006, 00:39
ROSCOEI don't think you will find recoil to be any worse than your 416...might be less. As for factory ammo, All I have shot in my Searcy is Federal. I think you are better to reload. It is much less money in the long run and gives you the option of reduced cast bullet loads for practice shooting.

500grainsIf the stock fits you, the recoil will not be bad at all. But if the stock does not have enough cast for your build, or if the LOP is too short for you, it will punch you in the cheekbone with each shot.

Big Mo500 grns. Not sure about the cast but the lop is pretty close but could probably use another half inch. Talked with Butch about this and he could add a spacer and cover with leather. My nose is about three quarters to one half away from my thumb. As for cast all the sxs shot guns I shoot are straight and work fine but I don't know about dbl rifles. I will just have to shoot and see.
