As classic as a true british Dr can become in its simple lines.

Nice purchase....she's a sweet piece of iron.

N E 450 No2If I was picking a Double Rifle to actually hunt elephants with, I would pick a Webley actioned Army & Navy over ANY Westley and Richards or Holland & Holland.
The only Double Rifle I like better is a Leonard built double, whether made for Jeffery Hollis or Edwinson Green & Sons.
400Nitro can expand on the specific facts.
The Doubles Webley build for the trade are some of the best.

505EDVery nice! I love the way the PHV-1 actions are shaped, fences are kind of oblong.

I don't think so. Looks original. One of mine from '14 is very similar, and is definitely original.

Yes, some of them were oblong. These were handmade though, and the fences were what the customer ordered. Actually quite a bit of variation in them. Mine has a beaded ball fence.

I don't have any info about it being restocked. As far as I know it is orignal but I would not bet the rifle on it.

400 Nitro ExpressOn second thought, it has. Finally dawned on me that the pattern is wrong and has no mullered border.
Thunderstick, if you don't mind my asking, what is the number (this won't be the same as the A&N serial number) on the left side of the fore-end loop (the fore-end hanger soldered onto the bottom of the barrels, directly under the left barrel)? The same number may also be stamped on top of the screw-grip fore-end lever (rotate it out to the side and look on top). Since the rifle is from 1917, I'm guessing it's in the 13,4XX range? I research these, and am just curious.
