Swift A-Frames in a modern double

Gentlemen:
Found 200 new 400 grain Swift A-Frames in .400 I must have picked up for one of my 450-400 3 1/4's. Are these acceptably safe to shoot in a modern barrel steel double?

Not monolithic but concerned they may have an adverse affect in my Lang (1906) barrels. I do have a new (Bohler Steel barreled) double in 450-400 3 1/4 and am curious as to any negative effect they may have on those barrels as well.

The official rumors

I have heard is that they are a bit soft and can increase the pressure.

Based upon the rumors and the questionable reality of those rumors I would still use something else.

Maybe North Forks if you really know the diameter(s) of your barrels or Woodleighs if you really know the diameter(s) of your barrels.

tried them in my double and a light load and created to much pressure. primers flattened, and cases bulged.
Not for double rifles imop.

I have been shooting them out of my Cz 458 Lott O/U,they shoot great,but this thread has given me pause for thought,I called them yesterday looking for information,the gent who I needed to talk to was out,I am waiting on him to call me back,maybe we can get some more info.

I have had no problems with pressure in my rifle that I can make out,wonder if the current stock of bullets on the market is improved in any way from the bullets that you tried?thanks.

Go to the Double Rifle bullet of the Future thread here in Double rifles and you will see lots of data Michael458 and myself did with my Chapuis 470. We tested many different bullets and quite a few loads. Had strain gages hooked up to chamber and 5 inches from muzzle. I think you will find this information very interesting.

Sam....I did go through and extract the info related to Swift AFrames,with the summary ranking most informative.
The AFrame ranked better than the Woodie SP...this surprised me as the AFrame is being played in this thread as a problem.
Did I miss something?

Bob,

Glad you found the data informative. Some very interesting things we found for sure. Even though the Swift had lower barrel strain it did give higher chamber pressures than the Woodleigh SP. The Swift is a great bullet but I think it should still be used in period doubles sparingly. For a conventional SP I think the Northfork would be a better choice.

AFrames are not a problem in bolt guns and are the best buff bullet around. Just don't use them in old doubles like I said when this topic started.

Absolutely agree...taken 3 buff with them,using bolt guns,it is the bullet of choice.
Now I plan to use them in my new Chapuis.

It is a little peculiar that it produced high chamber stress yet lower barrel stress in the cited tests,given that the same rifle and IMR 4831 powder charge were used to test all the bullets.
