Range Report with Dr Optic on VC 450-400
Took the gun out to the range. The Dr Optic was very impressive.

No change in balance or shootabilty. Did not even notice it on and the red dot was spot on.

Shot some cans at 25 yards and a metal gong at 50.

Only thing that sucked is now I need go spend a lot of money taking it to africa and shooting an eland or buff with it.

I will try and post a video to impress Biebs.

Really was a game changer for shooting the VC 450-400.

Nice to hear Mike - I have had the same experience with my Red Dot sights. So when are you going back to the Save to hunt with Mike?

Mike after seeing your mount, I have requested that they install the same on the one they are building me, and I will have that ability to use or not use the Docter. I shot one on mjines' gun and loved it.

To me at least it is a game changer.

Well worth the money and super easy to remove.

Before this I looked at the double as a side show - something I bought for sake of buying one.

Now I look forward to hunting with it. Time to go to save and hunt with Leon or Mike.

Just to keep optics in perspective - I had a friend with me who is a young plastic surgeon - he had never shot a gun ever in his life. A sig ar 400 with a eotech - hit a gong 4 put of 5 times at 125 yards. The new age optics are shooting game changers.

Is there any info on how to fit one on an existing VC 500?

V-C uses several methods for attaching scopes & reflex sights. Generally, if you only want a reflex sight then a single plate for a weaver style cross slot is installed in the rib, if you want the option of using a scope as well as a reflex then the German pivot bases are used and installed into the rib.
Both the pivot bases and the weaver type plate require the rib to be milled so that they sit near flush to the top of the rib.

Which would you recommend for the VC's that have nothing done to them. This setup or the slots like Heym does?

If you have that much to fight for, then you should be fighting. The sentiment that modern day ordinary Canadians do not need firearms for protection is pleasant but unrealistic. To discourage responsible deserving Canadians from possessing firearms for lawful self-defence and other legitimate purposes is to risk sacrificing them at the altar of political correctness."

If you want the option of using a scope then the pivot bases are the best option.

If you only want to use a reflex sight then I would put in a V-C reflex sight base that has a cross slot that uses a weaver type recoil stop.

Although many will disagree I am not sure I feel the grooved ribs for the mount that Trijicon offers is secure enough.
Also in the future that style mount might be orphaned. You will always find something for the weaver style base even if the footprint of the reflex sight changes.

The base sits near flush with the rib

Ken, How is that Weaver base attached to the rifle? It sure is nice and low.

The rib is milled to accept the base and sit flush.
I have had JJ at Champlins install these for customers when the gun was not originally ordered with a sight base.
