Bullet selection and contact info for 500NE
I would like to get all the info I can on availible bullets for a 500NE double rifle. I would also like web addresses if possible.
Paul,
If you see this, something like this may be good for the DRSS website. Sometimes finding our prefered products is a little harder than for the standard run-of-the-mill bullets and brass.

I ordered reloading supplies from Huntingtons for my 470. They have several bullets and different brass listed for the .500.

They had what I needed in stock and are very helpful.

Hope this helps.

I have been shooting 550-grain cast bullets in my Merkel .500NE that I got from Huntingtons and they shoot VERY well at 50 yards. They regulated great with the "factory" Westley Richards 570-grain jacketed bullets. I am extremely happy with the cast bullets and my sweet Merkel!

Good luck.

I too have a Merkel .500 and have been thinking about shooting cast through it. Can you give us some more information on your loads? Mould make, mould designation, powder, gas checks, etc etc?

Thanks

For Africa in the 500 Nitro it would be very hard to do any better than the Woodleigh Soft and Solid.

For fun use on deer and wild pigs a Hawk bullet, with the .025, or .030 at 75% weight using my 75% rule, or even a full weight Hawk will give better expansion and killing performance on the lighter game.

For fun shooting, and deer and pig hunting as well Nitro for Black loads will work giving very mild recoil.

I have my Merkel .500 NE regulated with 550-grain cast, gas-checked bullets from Hungington's driven by 42 grains of AA5744 powder with Fed215 primers and Westley Richards brass. My gun shoots the same point of impact with this load as my full power load of 103 grains of IMR 4831 with Woodleigh 570-grain soft nose jacketed bullets. I really like the cast bullet loads!!!
