I finally took the plunge. At DSC I went a bit beserk and purchased one of the Sabatti 470Ne's.

I looked at them all especially the Heym, and one of our members ( I can't remember his name for anything, and feel terrible for it ) spent a lot of time with me showing me those wonderfull rifles, I can't say how much I appreciate the time he took with me, I just couldn't bite off that big a chunk.

The Sabatti seems to aim where I point it, and I even found one with wood I liked that had a very good regulation target.

I can'twait to try it out this weekend!

A little bit of info that will prbably help.


The deal with the long stocks and the thin, cheap recoil pads, was they were made that way so the Company or the individual who got it could have it cut to his own LOP and inatall a better recoil pad. They were not intended to stay 15" long LOP.

Hope you love your .470 Italian beauty as much as I, and hope yours shoots as well, and stock looks as pretty as mine too. Love to see a picture of grain in your stock. I stripped my stock (hated the glossy non oil original finish), hand rubbed in a London oil finish, and was delighted to see how it enhanced the grain appearance remarkably). Let us know how your shoots, too. At 50 yards, mine will put both bullets into about one inch spread consistently; you couldn't ask for better than that.

I gotta agree with Jack that a refinish would do wonders. I like the fit.......but I havn't shot it yet.

A nice recoil pad will most likely be necessary.

JTEX, The AR member at the Heym booth was probably Tony Black, or NE 450 No2. Tony is very knowledgeable on double rifles of all kinds, and helps Chris Sells at his Heym booth each year. The Sabatti is a great start. In time, you'll determine your own set of likes in a double rifle, and then you can select from among the Heym, Merkel, Krieghoff, Verney Carron, and other brands. As for now, shoot, enjoy, and learn...and start saving your money for the one that lights your fire when you've learned the ropes.

I was a member when it was over at the other location. I gotta get back in it. Alot of my bud's are. I just been lazy I guess. But I do have a 2063 acre deer lease on 1409 we could shoot on. And yeah we need to get together. I would happily pay for some rounds to shoot out of your double. Never shot one.

Or, you could be like some of us who are very satisfied with our Sabattis. It nicely fills that desire for a quality double yet (in my case) leaves an extra 15K in the bank to finance an elephant/buffalo hunt that I have dreamed about for 30yrs! I LOVE my .450NE

That could happen too! Only time will tell.

I still havn't got to shoot the thing yet......it's killin' me.
