TN\KY shoot
TN members Snowwolfe and Xausa have invited me to their homes to shoot doubles. I will gladly take them up individually and extend a standing call 24hrs before you show up, so I can cook inventation to them in return.
Collin Master has suggested organizing a shoot at a formal range. I will be at the Heym shoot Sept 26.
But.....
Mr. Masters: If our other Tennessee/Kentuckians want to come I am game. I suggested my private "range" because I live just across the line off I75 exit 14 or 11. It would be closer for the Tennesseans. However, it is not really a formal range but a backyard with a reclaimed highwall for backstop. There are no homes or houses around. Whereever and whenever (just do not pick rifle deer season) with two weeks notice and I would be good.
I will make it formal are the Ky Tn members interested in a shoot at Mr. Collins range? If so, what does the group say about dates? If some of our TN brothers want to meet me at either exit they could ride on up with me and save miles and fuel. If this is something the members want to do, I will help facilate as instructed.
If not, no issue we will just do so individually and informally. Thank you all.

Some of you TN gents PM me and tell me about your wonderful state. In a couple of years I will move out of Alaska and eastern TN seems to have reasonable property taxes, good property values for large tracts of land (50-300 acres), is not as hot as west TN, has a great state history, no income tax (but an outrageous sales tax), is gun friendly, and must be warmer than Alaska.
I will sell my place in Alaska (2400sq.ft. log home on 7 acres) and be looking for a place to settle myself and my doubles.

Mr. Pappas: I live 5 minutes from east tn. Knoxville is 30 minutes down I75. I am happy to here this because if you continue your shoots, then I will get to come. It get hot as hell here. The temp may be 85 or 95 with 60 to 80 percent humidity. It rains a lot and recent winters we have got 8 to 14 inches of snow.
The good thing is, it does not last long. It rains a lot.

Tn does not have a state income tax, but a 9 percent sales tax on everything. Ammo has a state tax in addition to the sales tax. Or at least, it has a stamp that makes me think there is state. Fuel is better regulated than in Ky. Less likley to get waterdowned gasoline. Tn gets republican governors while I get stuck without dem legislatures and governors. Tn WMAs have seperate fees. You can take 2 bucks in TN and only one statewide in ky.

I am willing to travel anywhere in the state, or Tennessee for that matter. I have a good friend that has a beautiful farm, who also happens to be into doubles and vintage British guns. He would probably provide a venue option as well.

All not trying to be pushy, but I would suggest the first Saturday in October. This does not interfere with KY's first muzzleloader season(just 2 days), but may TN. TN has its seasons start about a week sooner. Time wise a would say 430. My gut feeling is to have it at Mr. Masters range. Any one coming from TN that did not want to drive all the way up could meet me off I75 and ride in and out with me.

If anyone has any idea is fine with me. With proper notice I can be flexible. I will be at the Heym shoot The last weekend in September and the second weekend in September I will be at the colt collectors meeting in Louisville.
However, do not let my schedule keep y'uns from a good shoot.

Saturday's in October and November are impossible for me. Sunday's are good however.

I would love to participate, but October, even the first week is bear season in North Georgia, and I will be hunting. Can we try the latter part of September as my bow hunting is scarce. Thanks

If my scheduling issues present a problem please schedule when you need to and I will make the next one. The Knob Creek gun range is also an option.

MDStewart: If we can get a hard date you are very welcome to attened.

Mr. Masters: I would like if at all possible to get a date that works for you. I will speak to my Minister and see if the second Sunday is in September is good or us. If anyone else has any ideas feel free to share.

So, assume my Minister is ok with it. How does the second Sunday in September sound. Espesically if we hold it in central Ky my Minister can go shopping.

Mr. Z: you posted as I was typing. I see you work on Sunday's. What works for the most is fine with me. If someone would please suggest a date. Second weekend in September or any weekend in October would be fine except the second. I do not have a problem with November but we will need to dodge firearm deer season. If not we tried. And will try again after the holidays.

Set a firm date and time and I will try to be there. I guess I need to load some ammo.

Ok, since this was my idea I make the following recommendation: The first Sunday in September, at Mr. Collins' location. Based on the responses this might work, time 200pm ok?

If some one wants to ride on in let me know we can meet at exit 11 off I75 and I can take 2 with me.

What say the group.

Gents:
From my experience in Alaska it will be impossible to please everyone. There is always somebody who is working, fishing, having an anniversary, etc… If you ask you won't find a date everyone is happy with. And, if you ask and pick another day someone can't make it, they may take offense.

Most want Sat., Few want Sunday. Most don't want the shoot to fall on a long weekend.

I would suggest pick a date and put it out there.
Cheers and good luck. I've enjoyed each and every one of our shoots.

Mr. Pappas: Thank you for your suggestion. As I am the new guy, I have no issue with being accommodating. If the day is good with Mr. Masters, then my vote is ago. 3 plus should be sufficient. Let the games begin. I could use instruction from those who have done this longer. Thank you for making me welcome here.

My dad is Mr. Pappas. I'm cal.
When you have a list of those attending, split the group into what to bring such as
1. grill, gas, plates, cups, utensils, etc.
2. cooler and ice with drinks and water
3. burgers
4. dogs
5. salad and condiments
6. chips and deserts.

Shoot 10-12, eat noon to 1, shoot until the crowd wanted to go home.

Up here we just shoot at paper and clay pigeons on the bank. We don't have competitions for accuracy or time yet. We shoot each other's rifles, bring our own ammo and share. The range charges $20 per person but the shooters don't charge at all.

I down load my powerful 8 and 4 bore and .600 as many hairy chested he-men want to "touch off a 4-bore" but have no clue how to handle a heavy kicking rifle and I don't want it to fly out of their hands. For newbies, I ask them to start with the smaller calibers and work up. Other guys at the range come to see us and they are invited for lunch as well as to shoot our doubles. A few folks bring heavy bolt rifles, machine guns, etc. all are welcome.

Members: Here are the details: Sunday, September 4, 2016. Mr. Masters can have one member as a guest at the range. I will pay for a membership, so one member can come as a guest of mine (so no charge to those individuals.

The range is Boyle county fish and game club. https://maps.google.com/maps?o...727&gmm=CgIgAQ%3D%3D

The nearest town is junction city, Ky, nearest big town is Danville, Ky.

The time of shoot shall be 1030 am. I will bring a box of clay pegions and some grid deer vital targets. If anyone wants to bring targets or a stand feel free to do so.

This will be very informal shoot. Shoot until we are out of ammo or collar bones break.

Mr. Masters has graciously agreed to pay a year range fee (40 dollars) that will allow two more shooters at no cost.

Anyone comming from the south is free to ride up with me. Meet of exit 11 on I75. I can accomidate 2 riders. Let the games begin. Thank you Mr. Masters.

Glad we have a set date. Anyone who wants to travel to central Ky is welcome to join.

I'll have to ride out to the club and Read the rules again, I am thinking clay pigeons are not allowed except on the 200 yard and 300 yard berms. Maybe gallon jugs of water?

Rifle range is covered, and there is a pavilion we can use as well. I'll have a cooler of water and soft drinks. There is a pistol range and trap station available as an afterthought if anyone wants to partake.

I am excited! I have never had the opportunity to shoot a double rifle, and have wanted to for over 20 years.

Thank you everyone for your interest. And to Mr. Cal for his support. Unfortunately, our host has been sidelined and with the lack of hard commitments we feel it would be best to cancel the shoot at this time.

No disrespect and no hard feelings. We will try again in the spring. If anyone has any date ideas. Please provide them. We could have a shoot at my private range closer to TN. However, I can only accomadate six shooting guest.

Good hunting this fall. I hope the 500, 570 Hornaday DGX can hold up to a rutting, testosterone, swelled up buck.

Thank you for the inspiration. The numbers or lack there of does not bother me. I hope we can work it out where some of the mid SEC boys can get together and share in the common pursuit of happiness. As much as I would like to Alaska is a bit too far next year. We will try in the spring.

If anyone is heading up I75, drop me a pm with resonable notice and you can drink my alcohol, shoot my double, and eat my food. I just ask you bring me something to shoot as well.

Notice the series of events would not be in that order of course.

The Ammo tax is 10 cents a box. It's a nuisance but if you try to retail Ammo without it, the state tax people will confiscate the Ammo. I've seen it done. You can sell a box of 22s, or a sealed case of 1000 rounds and the tax is 10 cents. Try to sell loose Ammo such as surplus stuff and the tax is 10 cents a round.
