Wouldn't it be nice to be able to afford some of those rifles!
Not a bad profit on what he paid for it but
he got into a bidding duel with someone
and it went sky high for what it was.
But then again, he has plenty of money
so he wouldn't care !

fla3006Yes, alot of dough but less than what it would cost to duplicate today. And it would never have the provenance or historical value of that weapon.

Sorry but their is little historical value in that rifle. He was a minor character in a historic context. No one would have ever heard of him without the movie being made.

I don't think he is too worried if he does sell it.
I was on the phone bidding on the rifle until the 2 other bidders took it way, way, way over the top so I just listened in and it was well worth listening to.

Chris E NelsonFellas...I have seen and handled this gun. I don't think it's possible to inflict much more wear on this gun, Bores look nearly as smooth as the checkering which pretty much means BOTH are gone. If it weren't for its provinence it would be in a trash can,

Are you sure about the barrels, many Lancasters had the "Oval Bore" which at first glance does kind of look like a washed out bore, the rifle was re-barreled by Lancaster sometime in 1928 and Finch Hatton died in May 1931 close to what is now the Voi Gate of the Tsavo East National Park, so unless iut has seen copious amount of use by subsequent owners in the intervening years, it may well be an oval bore?
Just a thought as I have not seen the rifle myself
