465 H&H Dominion grade?

ozhunter465 H&H Dominion grade?
Any one with experience of this rifle. Would love to know what you think of it. Value, accuracy, quality est.

Accuracy: as good as any H&H double.
Quality: sans embellishments but constructed very well.
Value: about 1/2 of the same caliber in a Royal.
Opinion: Many shy away as they are not the famous Royal and lack engraving. But, hey, they are still a Holland and among the finest out there.

jvw375A good friend of mine has one dating from 1930. FANTASTIC rifle! His rifle has 26-inch barrels and it handles and shoots extremely well.
I would not hesitate one bit, and actually prefer the starngely old-fashioned looks of the Dominion to that of many other hammerless sidelocks.
Also, big things really listen when hit with a .500/465!

Champlin's has 3 of these currently listed, in various levels of condition. It
at least gives you an idea of value.
I think that Cal was spot on with his overall assessment of the Dominion.
To me, I like the "nostalgia part" of African hunting & taking dangerous
game with a 100 yr old English Double (especially an H&H) adds
to that.
Plus, it would make a fine partner to your Westley Richards 425.

DoubleDonHello Adam. I agree with all of the above posts. I purchassed one from Dave Cruz at Holland one year ago. Completed in 1936. Shoots very well and fits like a glove. Now if you will just buy one, we can get some BBW #13's made up.

Dutch44I talked to George the other day about the 500-450 Dominion for $34,950. I wondered why it had dovetail lumps and I questioned the engraving, which didn't look "period" to me. George stated that, generally, almost every Dominion he has seen had chopper-lump barrels. He also added that this was the only Dominion in 500-450 that he had observed in the Dominion. It is a pretty rifle.

The Dominion is the workhorse of the H&H line.
I do like Webley long bars and Westley boxlocks, but the option of buying an H&H detachable back-action sidelock with chopperlump barrels for the same money is a good argument in favor of the Dominion.
