EterryWhere to look for double rifles ????
I am sure this has been covered in here numerous times but I have a bad case of double rifle fever on a beer pocketbook. Am interested in a good quality used double rifle, even maybe a BPE to start with. Any recommendations for websites so I can drool and dream? I have Champlin Arms bookmarked but was wondering if there are others like it? Any help is appreciated.
Good luck and good shooting,
Eterry

lee440The above sites mentioned by Spring are good ones, but all command premium prices above actual value, IMHO. Champlins is a good one and they come closest to reasonable prices, good service, expert knowledge and unmatched backing on their products. Others have had good luck dealing with Cabelas but almost all have them sent the guns to Champlins for an evaluation by JJ before purchase. Your odds of finding a good servicable double for under 12K that has been professionally evaluated and is "as represented" are greater with Champlins than most of the others. For example, Westley Richards currently has a Rodda 450/400 3" that is the sister to mine, except looking at the pictures reveals some pitting on the action near the standing breech, WR is asking 11K, I purchased mine last Jan. from George Caswell(Champlins) for $7500. There are other good dealers around, but few can match the "package" of services and peace of mind like Champlins. I have only made one purchase from them which does not make me an expert, but there are many experienced folk on here that will echo my sentiments. Lee.

Frank BellerI agree with Lee440; I've made two purchases from Champlin Arms, and both were great experiences. Also, look at gun shows, and all the above-mentioned sources, but ALWAYS have any rifle checked out by someone like J.J. at Champlins before you pay big money for it. It will be the best insurance you can have on your new purchase.

I have purchased two doubles from Champlins , I can highly recommend them.
Instead of a BPE double I highly recommend you take a look at a Chapuis in 9,3x74R.

EterryNE 450 No 2, thanks for the info, I understand that Champlin comes highly recommended. Of course I want a 470, maybe a 450, but will realistically accept a smaller caliber. Am not financially ready to plunge in, but wanted to test the waters first.
