larrys01Practice load for .470 NE
I loaded a Federal Case, Fed Mag primer, 110 grs. of H4831sc and a Hornady .475 Cal. 400 gr. HP/XTP Pistol Bullet. Point of impact is the same as my 500 gr. Heavy loads and recoil is less severe. This seems to work well as I have noticed no ill effects. Has anyone out there tried this?

Bill73larrys01,
I would imagine plenty of people have done it,I myself have used Cast performance, hard cast pistol bullets,I have hunted hogs twice with them, one shot bang flops, recoil is also not that bad as you mentioned, N E 450 No2 who posts here quite frequently has a lot of sound advice on this subject, let's hope he notices this thread & chimes in,besides he's the only scotch drinker who can keep up with me

retreeverLarry,
I shoot a 450#2 with 500 gr Hornady soft points for practice...and I have even shot some 350grers but they tend to spread out and have to be twiked a little more... If you are looking for a cheaper bullet the a hard cast lead in 500 gr will work..
I also only shoot hunting loads and not reduced loads...
My doubler also shots 450, 480, & 500grers all the same..

larrys01Thanks for the info guys. I think I'll take a few of them to Tanzania in a couple weeks and try them on something smaller than a Buffalo if I get the chance.

Atkinson45 grs. of XMP-5144 with a 500 gr. lead bullet will normally hit the POI as your full power load...It's running about 1400 FPS btw
Another load that I use that will also come to POI is 85 grs. of RL-15 with 5 grs of DACRON for 2020 FPS with any 500 gr. bullet. In fact that is my standard Buffalo load and it hammers them big time, without all the recoil and recovery time is very fast..
