a good day at the range
This is H4831 in my 450/400 with 400gr Hornady softs.

Six shots at 50: Except for my one "flyer" from the first shot, I'd say this is the best I can do.

Same loads shot a 4-shot group under 2.5" at 100.

Just need to bump the rear sight to the left a bit, and buffalo beware.

Chris,

Just send that rifle over to me...I'll try to get it to shoot for ya! It shouldn't take Mark, Bob and I over, say. . . .6-8 months to shoot it in for ya! Eeker animal

You guys would have the barrels shot out in that amount of time.

I'll try harder next time Jim!

A hundred yards? I can't even see that far. Looks pretty tight to me, even at 25 yards.

And the velocities are?

So the "problem" here is you? Or the rifle?

Do you have any plans of trying RL-15? According to Wright and others it is supposedly a good replacement for the old Cordite loads.

RL15 seems to produce good results (and better velocity uniformity). But I load regularly (shooting with clients) for the 400, 404, 470 and 500. RL15 would work in any of those, but it requires some sort of filler, whereas the bulkier 4831 does not. From my way of thinking, filler is one less thing for me to worry with (remember: this is “work†for me Wink.) Admittedly, however, my objectives are different than most guys who are trying to work up the best loads for a particular rifle. My focus is simplicity.

From a speculation standpoint it would seem that 2080 fps in 24" barrels is pretty close to the "nominal" load for the 450/400, i.e., what Kynoch factory rounds should yield velocity and pressure wise. Work or otherwise, ain't it just fun!

450/400
Now if only my 450/400 will regulate with that load! Then we're both in business!

Nice group Chris,
I saw the factory target at the DSC in January, from the get go you knew this rifle was going to be one accurate double rifle.
