B Searcy .470 for sale
I have no dog in this fight. Just thought that it might be of interest to others.

A BSS-based Searcy for $13K ???? I know it comes with some extras, but that's about double what they sell for. Even a full Searcy box-lock DR on the used market is selling for $8,000-$9,500, depending on engraving, ejectors, etc.

Some extras? There's about $2500 worth of ammunition and what I figure are about $700 worth of accessories including reloading dies. That would mean about $10,000 for the rifle and case.

I have no interest in the rifle but I thought I should point that out.

I owned one of the early ones he donated to SCI in this caliber. It came with a very nice lined case. $8500 for that one. This one is engraved, but so was nine.

I'd suggest about $11K would be closer.

I sold a almost unused, non-BSS model 470 with engraving and good wood and a RMR for less than that before the bottom starting falling out. It was a very nice double.

New Guy had a nice Searcy 500 NE (non BSS) for sale here recently and was asking $8k.

With everything offered a price of around 10K, or $10,500 sounds about right. There is a pretty good amount of engraving, and the gold inlay is a real addition to that engraving that would cost at least half the price of the original rifle cost when added. That alone brings the rifle to the 10K being a bargain.

What is not understood by most is the original action was fitted with a chopper lump barrel set that was used to make the mono-block. Then Searcy added a third lock to that. There is no need to fear the actions strength. These early Searcy doubles are very strong and this one has all the bells and whistles as far as strength goes. Most of these were made chambered for 470NE and as far as I know not one has come apart or even shot loose. If I didn't already have a very good 470NE I would like to try to buy this one if the price was lowered down to about 10K with all the add-ons!
