I think the reason no one has answered this yet is because it will be a long list.

I'll start here and some of the rest can fill in the blanks.

Merkel

Heym

Kreighoff

Hartmann & Weiss

Zeiganhahn Not sure of spelling

Actully these are only a few. Many are small custom shops.

If your visiting Germany maybe the best thing to do is to tell us where you'll be and we can reccomend Gunmakers in that area.

If you expand that to "Germanic", and bring in Austria, you add all the Ferlach makers...Hambrusch, Sodia, Winkler, Borovnik, etc. Truly nice gun-art coming out of there...one of the last bastions of the old world apprenticeship gunmaking crafts.

Thanks for the response. We will be in and around Munich. Will have a rent a car, and
looking for an excuse to get on the autobahn.

The best suggestions for Munich would be to travel about two hours south to Innsbruch and visit jagdwaffen fuchs. I stopped in there one time and met him in person and he brought out one of his bolt action double rifles.

PM me and I'll arrange a meeting with Alois Mayr in Mittenwald about 1 & 1/4 hours south of Munich in the hart of the Alps). He is a good friend of mine and has built one rifle for me. Alois specializes in light weight mountain rifles but has built some very nice sidelock doubles.

The gunmaker who bought Marten Hagn's shop when he left Germany the last time is in a small village only minutes from Mittenwald. I don't know him or remember his name but Alois could help with that. The same is true for another gunmaker just across the border in Austria. I met him on several occations and his name is Phillip but his last name escapes me it starts with Ober? Anyway I don't think he remembers my last name ether and it was funny the last time I saw him was in Reno at S.C.I. A really nice rifle had caught my eye and I paid no atention to anything else as I starred at it and talked to the maker with out even looking at him. suddenly he said Bob is that you and I looked up to see Phillip. Later I saw a real nice write up on him in the S.C.I. magazine.

North of Munich in the town of Cham is a top grade maker and also in Rotenburg a couple hours north there used to be a great maker by the name of Jurgen Hensler.

Don't miss the Jagdt musieum down town next to the Alt Rothaus and Waffen Frankonia and Ketner are both walking distance from the musieum.

Like Dave said there is Blaser surly Bavaria's biggest gun maker.
