londonhunterCalibers for DF
I am replacing a ongoing commission with something different
will a boxlock 20 bore frame hold a 450/400 as an extra set of barrel ?
Thanks

MacD37That depends on what boxlock frame it is!
Example: A merkel shotgun that was made in the last 20 years uses the same action that is used on the double rifles. This was a cost cutting idea so they had to make only one action for anything they wanted to build with only the 20 ga size for the 375H&H through the 500NE and the 28 ga size for the small bore double rifles and 28 ga shotguns.
If however if one chose the 20ga action from, say, a Savage double then it is not suited for building a double rifle larger than a 30-30, and not a good choice even for that!
A Merkel, Simpson, or a browning BSS are all quite strong enough for a 450-400NE rifle, if fitted properly, paired with a pair of 20 ga barrels. There are others that will work as well, but those are three examples that are!

londonhunterThanks I will post a picture later
I am a fan of Perruigini Visini and I many of their creations.
I would love to have an over and under with a pair of barrels
450/400
20 bore 30 inch for driven game
I wonder if this is a resonable request ?

LH the PV would be a good choice for this IMO!

londonhunterWonderful
I have always wanted to have a 450/400 for some reason
I shoot a Merkel 416 100% of the time and somehow 9.3 x 74 is neither here or there
Its going to be interesting to see my next DG outing which one i am going to pick
450/400 or 416 ...........
Thanks

dpcdIf you want an O/U, use a Ruger frame. If you want a S/S, use a Browning. Or merkel, although 12 ga used Merkels and Sauers are very cheap and easy to get in the US at least. Simpson just imported 900 of them. and others have them as well.
