MississippianLooking for a Double rifle
A friend called the other day looking for a SXS double in 3006 and would like it to be scoped. His budget will be 10k or less so if yall have any prospects let me know. Im gonna look on the usual websites but it would be nice to get one from a known member particularly if the accuracy of the rifle is proven! Thanks a bunch and hope everyone has a great holiday!

458WinIf he is willing to consider an O&U the Zoli Z-gun can be had very much under his budget and meets all his requirents. Plus can be had with a set of 20 ga shotgun barrels and/or shotgun rifle barrels.
Anyone who claims the 30-06 is ineffective has either not tried one, or is unwittingly commenting on their own marksmanship

mdstewartI would be glad to help your friend get a new DR from Merkel, model 141. It will be well regulated, have the Recnagle swing off scope mounts, and can be acquired at a really good price. I've also got a couple of used Merkel doubles that are available as well, just not in .30-06. PM if there is any interest in any of these guns. Mike

Mississippian458 win, Thanks for the offer but he already has an OU. Wants a SXS now.
mdstewart, I think the merkel would suit him fine. A good friend of his has one which he liked but it wasnt for sale. Let me know the specifics on the Merkel and for now lets stick to a 3006.

J DThere is a Chapruis in 3006, single trigger, sideplates ( I do not recall if it is a box lock with plates or a true sidelock) and a outstanding piece of wood at Cabellas for 13k near Batron Rouge Louisana. It is a beauty of a rifle. It's beeen there for 6 months

dpcdOf course he can have what he wants, but to me, a double rifle should be at least 375 cal, and that is small. 9.3mm is ok. Am I alone in this thinking?

Yes, You are mostly alone in this. I shoot my 30-06 5x more than I do any other double.
My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

Someday I'd like to add one of Bailey Bradshaw's doubles in 22 Hornet (or something similar) to my DR gun safe so a 30-06 seems fine to me.
I would say (and this is personal preference with no rhyme or reason behind it) that for doubles I like rimmed cases and for bolts I like belts, so my choice would be a rimmed 30 caliber (or 7mm or 8mm of similar velocity and energy).

I'll try to get you a price and some pics by Monday afternoon. Since it's the holiday weekend, everything is a day to two behind. Thanks, Mike I'll PM you with the data.

dpcdOh, I don't think I am alone based on the calibers of double rifles I have seen made available in the marketplace from various makers over the past, well, ever. But of course, small bores are and have been availabe in small numbers for anyone inclined to own one. Still, I wouldn't mind a small caliber, preferring rimmed ammo as well. 30-40 might be nice.
