Anybody know anything about this maker?

It was made by Sandro Lucchini and is obviously a very nice gun.

There are many makers (largely unknown in the US) in and around Brescia.

Most operate much like the British trade once did - in that they buy parts (an action here, barrels there, etc...) and finish the guns in-house.

Most of the barrels are puchased from a maker in Austria, are usually chopper-lump and of the highest quality. In fact, they come from the same place that a lot of better known makers buy thier barrels.

Lucchini has made some less expensive guns in the past, but today only makes "best" grade guns.

Again, it's a nice gun.

Here's another good example of a "best" quality double rifle from a relatively unknown Italian maker.

Thanks, new guy. I was struck by the obvious quality of the build. And the deeply carved engraving, coupled with the fine bulino engraving on the side plates, is fabulous. I want to see the elephant on the action bottom!

akrange, when you consider that this .500 NE comes with an extra set of shotgun barrels, that price is truly incredible.

Here is one of my favorites.
ABBIATICO & SALVINELLI. Every one of their boxlock rifle comes with extended tangs. Dang they are beautiful!

newguy, how much $?

The Lucchini rifle is beautiful and a definitely a good price. But is the action stout enough to survive a lot of firing? I wonder if it based on a relatively light shotgun action which would make it feel great, but may give it a reduced life expectancy. Just asking.

I think this builder is known as F.A.M.A.R.S.

I have read in a book by McIntosh that their shotguns have needed more repairs than some other Italian makers.

Famars and Abbiatico & Salvinelli are the same company.

Sandro Lucchini is a different maker, but I wouldn't be surprised if some of the components in this gun originated from A&S.

A&S provides a lot of machined parts throughout the gun trade. Again, this model works very much like the Brit's did.

There's no need for every small maker to invest $250K in CNC equipment when the gunmaker down the road or across town already has the machinery, is familiar with the type of parts you need and has "time" on the machine available.

What Dan said. The barrel profile makes me wonder the same thing. Light for caliber too. Lovely scroll, but I'd like it a whole lot better had it been finished with just scroll. The game scene ruins it. Shotgun barrels added later by a different maker. Attactive piece, but the price is a push for a used Italian gun of this quality.

Sandro Lucchini is a solo gunmaker in the Brescia Valley of Italy. He makes lots of shotguns and I have seen several of this doubles...nice work from all outward appearances. He is a personal friend of Joel, Russian Armory and has shown many of his guns in his booths at SCI and Beinfled over the years. I believe that Bill Moore of William Larkin Moore in Scottsdale could enlighten you on this maker...my opinion, good stuff, very expensive and it's not English...that said, much of the beginnings of great English guns now comes from Italy!

Last I heard A&S was building about 300 barreled actions per year (shotguns included)... About 100 of which they finished and sold themselves.

A large portion of the balance were being shipped to the UK in the white.

I am not a big "game scene" guy either. But I have to say that is some very nice work. So delicate and detailed. I'd like to learn how to do that type of engraving.

I examined couple 2nd-hand 12 br SLEs from Luccini shop. One was Boss-style 'Vertical'gun (12kUS) and second piece was H&H type SxS (9.5KUS). High quality guns, no doubt about it.
