Rigby 500 NE
Gentlemen:

As you probably know there is a auction to benefit the guy accidentally shot by Craig Boddington's daughter. One of the packages includes a Rigby 500NE. It is posted in the African Hunting section.

What do you think this gun is worth?

What do you think of the straight stock?

Thanks.

I wonder if he means by a straight stock no cheekpiece, as Craig is a lefty. I can't imagine a 500 Nitro with no pistolgrip.

i would like to know if it is a real rigby or a mexiby.
if a real london rigby then in the boxlock config. somewhere between 17-25.000$

if a mexiby, then assuming that it shoots ok, 6-9.000$

best regards

peter

I think it is a modern made Rigby.

And by straight stock I think he means no cast on or cast off.

It should have a pistol grip.

this from craig:

the rifle is new, just being finished. It is a standard boxlock with straight stock, no cheekpiece. This is the way I prefer them, but since I'm left-handed this makes it extremely ambidextrous. 24" barrels, one standing leaf, one folding, 3/32" front bead. Nice rifle. I will do the regulation shooting myself.
Thanks for your interest, Craig

No they use 20ga merkel actions, not a bad thing just not a 30K thing.

The new Rigby 500NE uses the same action as the Merkel 500NE, but that is not a bad thing. Those actions are rifle actions of the size used by S/S 20 ga. What that means is the Merkel shotguns are made on rifle actions, not the other way round.

If that rifle is regulated as well as the 470NE that Boddington has, it will be hard to beat in the accuracy department.

California Rigbys would love to be a a "RE-BADGED HEYM"

Stop and think for a moment this is not only a fine oppertunaty to get a good hunting rifle,at a good price, but to help PUKI as well!

Hell you might even get to use that rifle hunting with PUKI after he regains his health! That would be a Win/Win deal IMO! thumb

i agree with you mac, it is for a very worthy cause, the question were, what is the estimated value of the gun, and in there lies a sad truth that the mexibys are not worth much.
but the bufflo hunting will be worth more than that anyways.

so you get a really nice hunt and a great tomatostake Wink

Larry....as others have said, it's made on a Merkel action which is VERY strong. The gun will be a no cast stock similar to Craig's Heym that I handled a couple of years ago at Dallas.....nice fit for me...but don't remember the LOP...of course pad thickness can change that easily. A nice firearm, but not an English made double.
Of course you get to be a star on Tracks Across Africa, and I get to tell folks....hey....I know that guy!... Big Grin
