Rockrat45-70 elko mag.
Picked up what is supposed to be a Beretta DR in this caliber. Guy said it was a 45-70 but once I got it in, saw the barrel was stamped with this caliber designation. Haven't cereosafed the chamber, but it appears to be a case between the 45-100 and 45-110 length. Any information would be appreciated.

jwmI seem to recall reading in an old Gun Digest that Elko Arms was a company that converted Beretta shotguns into double rifles in .45-70 caliber.

Mike BrooksTry doing a chamber casting or ask in the wildcatter forum. I've never heard of it. but it should be a nice one.
edit;
You got me gurious,, I googled and found that Gun's Magazine had a piece on it in 1995.
"45-70 Elko Magnum Bodinson, Holt September 1995 .45-70 Elko Magnum A custom rifle chambered in an enhanced version of the classic govt. round. "

RockratDid a chamber cast. Case is 2.6" long, .500" base,so I am thinking 45-100 Sharps.

No. The .45/70 Elko Magnum is a standard European cartridge normalized by CIP. Case length is 2.598", max pressure 42,786 PSI.
You'll find the CIP specifications here:

RockratThank you for the information. Been looking for case dimensions. It is almost identical to the 45-100 2.6" Sharps. Rim dia. and thickness and case head dia. are about .005" smaller on the Sharps case. Nice it has a 1-20" twist.
Gives me an idea of what cartridge the gun is chambered for. Much appreciated
