SnowwolfeHornady ammo - 450/400
Has anyone here actually chronographed Hornady ammo? If you did, what was the speed?

AmmoloaderI chronoed factory Hornady 450/400 DGX at 2040-2050 fps from a 24" Sabatti and a Ruger #1. The load I used to emulate the factory ballistics was 80.5 grains of H4831 SC loaded at 3.675" OAL with a 400 DGX, Hornady brass, F215 primer and a crimped bullet. It gave 2051 fps. Crimping adds 60 fps and is required to produced the most consistant loads.

tetonkaVery early in the life of my 450/400 NE 3in. K-Gun I shot some
Hornady factory stuff and got 2040 fps. both in DGX and DGS.
Called the Hornady ballistics lab and they confirmed Lot by Lot speed as they record each lot and do not exceed 2050 fps. with
their factory loading.
Tried some reloads with 80 gr H 4831 (Their factory load / but they use non canister bulk powder) and got
2048 with shots crossing.
Switched to H4831 SC and went downto 78 gr. to 2018 fps with proper regulation, no crossing in 23 1/2 bbls. Very happy with
that load. Also played with RL-15 and found that 66 gr RL-15 and
a foam backer rod for filler gave the same results with much less
felt recoil and the same regulation. Excellent practice load and have even shot a couple of Hogs. Not crimping any loads to promote case life and it shoots just fine as it is.
Hope this helps someone,
Good Shooting
